Ever wonder how everyone else juggles all the crazy things in their lives? Want a behind the scenes look at the life that bloggers share a teeny bit of each time they write? I know I love to see how other people balance everything, so I’m linking up with Katie and a bunch of other bloggers to share our days. I wish I could say I enjoy these posts because they give me ideas on how to manage my own chaos, but really? I’m just a nosy neighbor.
I chose a somewhat typical school day – this time a Friday – to share with you. Hope you enjoy this peak into my crazy.
6:05 am – alarm goes off. I hate it. Hate it. So, I lie in bed and read my email for a few minutes while I convince myself to brave taking off the warm blankets.
I grab my infamous pink robe (yes, it’s a cross between a snuggy and forever lazy)
and head for the thing I need most: coffee. Given that I went to bed after midnight, I’d not survive without it.
I spend some time surfing and Facebooking while I wait for my brain to wake up and then it’s time to start the morning activities. Wake up one kid and march him through the morning routine, shove him out the door to school, wake up the other kid, get him fed, his lunch made, and drop him off at school. In the middle of all of this, I’m usually grabbing bites of my current favorite breakfast: oatmeal with berries and almond butter.
9:00 – It’s peaceful in the house and I desperately try to get some work done for my job. I’m working with a graphic designer on a webpage, so I spent some time providing feedback and playing with the designs in the web interface.
10:30 – Time to run. If I don’t do it immediately, I won’t get a shower before I have to volunteer at Shoo’s school. I head out for 8 miles. I’m not loving it as it’s windy and my legs are super tired from the previous day’s 11 miles. I trip and fall (again) at mile 5, but I get it done. Jump in the shower and discover that OMG I wore the wrong underwear. Chafe is not a pretty thing.
Noon – I head over to Shoo’s school for his Greek and Roman Festival. I spend the next 3 or so hours wrangling 3 graders wrapped in togas. Note that I totally forget to eat after my run.
Shoo’s outfit keeps falling off, so I keep adding pins. It’s a good thing I’m a runner and grabbed a handful of the 100s of pins I have LOL.
Finally school is over and we head home. Shoo asks that we stay in (Friday is often a dinner out), so we order Thai food. I have my usual Tom Yum Kai. Yummy! Sadly, I totally forget to take a picture.
6:00 – Everyone kind of does their own thing for a while. Some families have a Friday night family night – we have a “do your own thing” night. The two introverts in the family are ready for down time by the end of the week. The two extroverts spend some time on a game together. And then I finish up the work I didn’t get done earlier in the day. I’m thankful I have a job that allows me to work flexible hours so I can train and get to do things like volunteer at the schools.
8:00 – Beer time. I’m pretty much mentally done. Between the heavy mileage build I’m doing and the volunteering at the school (I’d suck as a teacher), my body is as tired as my mind. I’d like to write a post or an article or something useful, but it just isn’t happening. I download a book onto my iPad, grab my beer, and curl up in my cozy robe and read.
Beer Geek heads to bed, soon followed by Shoo. Jones and I feed the gecko and then I read/doze on the couch until far too late. Eventually (midnight?) I go upstairs and send Jones to bed and hit the sheets myself.
Thankfully, it’s a Friday night, so I’ll be able to sleep in the next day.
[Tweet “A look behind the scenes at a day in the life of a marathon training mom… #rlam #fitfluential”]
There you have it. A pretty typical day in my life as a part-time work at home, marathon training mom. Are your days more exciting than mine? (They must be LOL). Link up a post about your day or go check out some of the other Day in the Life Posts!
I have hundreds of pins too but most are still attached to my old bibs…so lazy. Love taking a peek inside your day!
Loving seeing an insight into your life 🙂
Im on my way….AND I OWN A TOGA!!!
I love looking inside your day. I’m very jealous that you can run at 10 a.m.!
Love how so many of us love our coffee and quiet time in the morning 😉
Really, my day is not more exciting! But it is different. 😉
Haha, Greek and Roman festival? I sure miss those days of crazy grade school events…
Thanks for sharing!
I like your idea of a “do your own thing” night. I guess we have those informally, but it’s a fun concept. Greek seems to be the thing these days in the schools–my daughter just brought in a homemade Athena helmet and essay as part of a mythology project.
It’s a 3rd grade thing here. We had the same thing 4 years ago when Jones was in 3rd.
Friday nights are the only unlimited electronics nights. My husband and older son need to just be off by themselves. Shoo and I hang out some and then do our own thing too. We all need that night to recharge before the busy weekends.
Oh I really love the pink robe!! 🙂 Fun to check out what everyone does all day. I need to do one of these on an exciting day!
It’s hideous, but oh so warm and our house is so cold in the morning.
I love that you showed us a friday. It feels so much more relaxed. I love your robe! I have one too!
Love your beer hour 😉
I always think it’s interesting peeking into someone else’s life. Everyone has such different routines!
I always enjoy reading these posts! We did the Greek festival thing last year – funny how so many schools do that.
I love reading these posts! It is so great to see how others manage their days!!
We have introverts and extroverts trying to habitat together too. It’s nice that everyone gets what they need 🙂
I sort of hate my alarm too, lol. I like sleep.
I need that robe ASAP – and that beer! 🙂
PS – thanks for your help with the link up!
I always start my day with emails in bed as well! I’m convinced the bright screen helps shock my brain into waking up , haha. I love your snuggie/robe. I have one very similar, in the exact same shade of pink!
I love how almost every single one of us talk about how necessary our morning coffee is to beginning our day. lol It makes me feel a little less like a caffeine addict. lol
There’s no let-up is there? It’s just go, go, go from morning to beyond dark. Just as well we’re fit enough for all the demands of life – being runners and all.
I was jealous that you slept late, until I saw how late you stay up at night. I think all of us mother runners are sleep deprived in our own ways. 😉
Here’s my “Day in the Life” post: https://runallyear.wordpress.com/2015/01/21/a-day-in-the-life/
I love reading these posts – so fun to see what a all goes on in other people’s lives.
I went to bed after midnight last night and let me say I am not happy about it. Last-minute finishing up science projects is NOT fun. Anywho – I have a snuggly robe just like that. GO TEAM SNUGGLY ROBES!
Ugh. We got Jones’ done by 9, but I’m so over science fair projects.
So fun, wish I had jumped on the bandwagon for this linkup….always late to the party!
Your morning actually sounds somewhat peaceful. I am rattled awake every morning by my son who bounces in around 5:30 ready for breakfast and I desperately try to coax him back to sleep. I love my morning sleep. I love that the extroverts in your family spend the night having game time. That is so my thing. I would definitely jump in on that!
Yeah, my kids would sleep till 10 or so if I let them, so I get quiet every morning.
Mmmm… I’ll do this next week. I’m also a nosy neighbor… 🙂
I love it! I sure wish I had more time to volunteer at the school. Way to rock the running and motherhood! PS – can I have a virtual beer with you someday?
Come visit DC – I’ll take you out for a real beer.
I’m with you on the coffee and quiet time to start the day off right!
