I haven’t broken double digits since June. In fact, the last time I ran a half marathon was June 2nd. After that, I didn’t do a run longer than 4 miles for the rest of the summer.
My “long run” three weeks ago was 6 miles.
Oops.
Remind me not to do that again.
And by that, I mean, remind me that it’s never fun to build back up. Especially when you are in a hurry.
But I did it. 10 miles on rolling hills. I chose one of the more challenging routes in Arlington and ran an out and back.
The beauty of an out and back? If you make it to the “out”, you have to do the back. The only way back to my house was under my own power…
It wasn’t pretty and my feet are killing me, but I did it.
Then I went to Trader Joe’s and bought a dark chocolate candy bar filled with speculoos cookie spread. And I wonder why my scale won’t budge LOL.
Wonder if I can manage 12 next week and then taper for a week… (File this under, do what I say, not what I do. This is not smart training.)
Two weeks until half marathon #9! of 2013. Then a month to back to back halves (10 and 11). Guess it’s time to find 12 and 13!
And then we are on to 2014 and my goal of 13 half marathons in 79 days to reach Venus!
I love out & backs for that exact reasons! If I’m on a loop, it’s easy to just stop where the loop restarts!
Venus? Holy cow! That’s intense! I’m just trying to figure out how to do 3 in 90 days so I can be a half fanatic… I couldn’t imagine 13 in 79 days!!
Oh man, you do need to ramp it back up! I’ve cut back and am a bit nervous for a double in, gasp, 3 weeks. Just be safe and don’t get injured!!!
WOW! I’m enjoying watching all of this from the comfort of my a$$. This is making me wince, though…don’t want to have to ‘rebuild’ next year…
AND VENUS?? Is this a previously non-articulated goal that is now being put into effect? Whoah.
13 half marathons in 79 days?! WOW!!
What?! I live in the land of Speculoos cookies and spread but I have yet to see chocolate filled with SCS! Probably for the best, but… not fair!!
Nothing like cramming for a half marathon. I used to do it for exams and that worked.
Love your energy! I can’t wait to get back to double digits. Don’t get me wrong I’m beyond thrilled to be running again but from 25+ mile runs to 3 run/walk miles. Ugh!
you inspire me…to git to TJs.
