I did it, but it wasn’t pretty. I have some sort of issue going on with my left hip flexor. I’m not sure why, but it began to twinge last week during my 8 mile run and bothered me again today. It doesn’t seem to bother me for the shorter runs.
Today’s 10 miler took place outside, thank goodness. The expected precipitation did not arrive, so I headed out into the cold. I think I need to keep track of what I wear and what the weather is because I’m having the hardest time dressing myself this winter. I ended up wearing my running tights (think I may need another pair of these or some other bottoms for layering), a tank bra, a long sleeve tech shirt, and a long sleeve tech half zip, running gloves, and a fleece running hat. It was around 34 degrees, sunny, but really windy (I also need to find some sort of windproof layer). I was mostly warm enough, except towards the end when the wind would hit and I was a bit damp. I had planned a fleece tech layer instead of the half zip, but I couldn’t find it this morning. I think that may have been overkill.
This was one of those runs that totally kills my confidence. It started off well enough, but it went seriously downhill at about mile 7. I’m sure some of it was the discomfort from my hip, but that wasn’t all of it. I was also STARVING. I think I should have eaten a bigger breakfast or a snack ’cause I hit empty and my stomach was growling. My Gu helped, but not totally. I also need to pick up some ‘ade ’cause I think it really helps me with my runs. My last mile was slower than most of my marathon miles. I did finish in 1:42ish and it was a really hilly run, but it truly was all I could do to finish the last mile.
In other news, Beer Geek’s employer should really check with me before sending him on travel. Don’t they know that a PMSing mama is not a good mama and that sending daddy away during that time could result in, well, let’s just call it not a good evening and leave it at that.
On a funny note, I got a catalog with technical clothes in the mail. It has stuff for skiing and running for the winter. Shoo likes to take it everywhere and “read” it. Today he informed me that daddy needed the running tights. Beer Geek is not a runner, so not sure where Shoo got that idea LOL.
dressing for running in this weather is so tough! Too funny about the running magazine! ๐
Good job. I’m glad you got to do it outside and not on the treadmill. ๐
Good job on the run. I have always hated the confidence killer ones.LOL about beer geek traveling during PMS….boy can I relate. I hope he is not gone too long.
Mr McG’s employer does that as well. It totally stinks :-(But hey, you got that 10 miler in and that’s what counts, right? ๐
That sucks about the pain in your hip. At least you still got the 10 miler done!
Way to layer up and get out there. The first step out the door is always the hardest.
That wind yesterday was harsh. It + hills surely made for a rough 10 miler. Puh-lease don’t let such a tough day kill your confidence. Think you should get Beer Geek a pair of running tights “just to wear around the house”? Just what every man wants, ha!
Just found from mommymel..look forward to reading more as I love to read the Mom’s who run!
