No, that’s not the last book in the Misty series. It’s what we did for the last four days. And it’s the real reason I didn’t run the Army 10 miler.
Our county schools always have two days off in October for elementary school conferences. Normally this coincides with Columbus Day, but this year it was later. I didn’t even realize it until well past the Army transfer date. (And, for the record, I was not the only parent in our county who was caught completely off guard by the change.)
Anyways, we rented a small cabin (at Dove Winds, if you are curious), packed my Pilot full of kids, clothes, and food, and headed to Chincoteague Island.
And it’s been pretty much nothing short of amazing. Seriously. The weather was nearly perfect (0ne day was grey, but the boys played at the beach anyways). We’ve seen ponies, bald eagles, blue herons, plovers, and DOLPHINS. (We went out on a boat tour with Spider’s Explorer and he took us right into a pod of dolphins. I think there were at least 10 surrounding the boat! Amazing!) We biked, we played on the beach, we swam in the indoor pool, and we had one of the best vacations ever. I haven’t run since Wednesday, but I’ve walked on the beach and biked at least 6 miles each of the two days we biked.
We have a habit of hitting the beach off season and once again, it paid off. No crowds, but plenty of sun and fun.
It sounds like you had amazing time! And got a little cross training to boot.
Sounds like a nice little break with the fam!
Very envious of the dolphin trip. It’s really nice being out amongst them in their environment. And it sounds like the kids had a great time … as good a time as their parents.
Have you changed something? I don’t usually have to sign in.
I prefer the beach off season. I have been on a whale watch where we saw dolphins and many baby dolphins. Heaven. Last visit to the Outer Banks when I ran on the beach there would often be a dolphin or two following me in the water.
And one day the water was filled with them. People from there said it was very unusual.
Dolphins are magical.
Sounds awesome!
SO SO SO FUN.
we had lots of girlathome time last week—-and I adored.
