Favorite weekend of the year

August 10, 2015 by MCM Mama 6 Comments

Each year, Beer Geek and I attend the Great Taste of the Midwest. It is the best beer festival I’ve ever been to and each year it does not disappoint. In fact, this whole weekend was pretty amazing.

Thursday we took the boys to the local festival, where they rode a bunch of rides like the tilt a whirl and bumper cars.  Gotta love small town USA celebrations – rides, junk food, and live music. Fun for all.

Carnival rides

Friday, after a 7 mile run around the neighborhood, Beer Geek and I headed to Madison. We always stay at the same hotel, so we got checked in and chilled out for a bit before we headed out to dinner with friends. We decided to bike over, which was great, except I was wearing a dress. I may have provided some entertainment for the local rush hour.

We had a few beers at Great Dane Brewing and a couple of other pubs.

Then we headed to dinner at Harvest.  As per usual, the food was AMAZING. I had a huge plate of mushrooms and more pork than any one person should eat. (I ate it all.)

After dinner, we went to a brewer event at the Children’s Museum. Luckily, we were with some DC area brewers, so we were able to attend.  Then Beer Geek and I biked home. (Luckily, it was a bike path and very few people were on it, so my not so straight biking wasn’t a problem.)

Saturday morning, I took my slightly hung over self for a run on Lake Monona. I swear one of these years, I’m going to run around the lake when I actually feel good enough to run. 5.3 miles later, I felt mostly back to normal.

Finally, it was time for Great Taste of the Midwest! I had so many amazing beers!

I ran into our friend, Fred, who is the brewer for New Holland Brewing.

I ate bacon on a stick. All in all it was an absolute blast!

Sunday was just about recovering and family time. I swear, one of these days, I’m going to convince Beer Geek to move to Madison!

Only 364 days until the next festival LOL.

Do you have any events that you go to each year? We’ve been to this one for 6 years and love it every.single.year.

Don’t forget to enter my Headsweats hat or visor giveaway! And join us tomorrow for Tuesdays on the Run. The topic is “Fall Race Schedule.” Can’t wait to hear where you will all be racing this fall!

It was a 2 mile walk or bike ride and I was wearing cute shoes LOL. I’m so used to skirts that I didn’t even think about the fact that I didn’t have shorts on underneath. Oops.

I love going to those fair/festival type events and just walking around. It’s not necessary to ride anything. It’s looks like you lots of opportunity to taste beer this weekend. I love the skirt you are wearing at Great Taste of the Midwest!

The skirt is the Tantrum print from Skirt Sports. If you like it, buy it soon as it’s the hot print this fall. And LOTS of good beer this weekend. Perhaps too much LOL.

You know I wish I was there! This summer, we haven’t left town. My oldest is working and we don’t dare leave him home alone. Another year or so, and we’ll be back up there…

We definitely have to meet up one of the times I’m up! I may be back at Christmas and/or spring break.
