You know how short weeks at work often feel longer than a normal week, just because you still need to do the same amount of work in fewer days? Well, February always feels that way for me and this February was no exception. It’s been… a month. I’m joining Marcia to runfess my sins (and maybe do a little “lifefessing” as well.)
I must runfess that I couldn’t help myself and when Runner’s Club registration opened for MCM, I jumped on it. It’s currently virtual, but in order to run it in person if it should switch, you have to be signed up for the virtual. I don’t actually hold out any hope that an in person race will look like it did in the past, but if Beer Geek and I are both vaccinated, I’ll be happy to run any version. Maybe this year I’ll even train.

However, I must runfess that I’m pretty much over virtual races. I’m currently signed up for several “mileage compilation” type events and I’m really over it. I’m tired of forcing myself to add miles to my days when I really don’t want to. Thankfully the one that actually matters (ie, I’m doing it with a team), allows bike miles. I must bikefess that sometimes I just get on with the resistance really low and pedal and read a book. At least it’s NEAT movement…
Speaking of bikefessing, I finally bit the bullet and bought a new one – the Bowflex C6. While my “bike desk” is fine for the aforementioned lazy workout, it really does not offer a true cardio workout. The resistance is too low and the ergonomics don’t allow for working hard. I can’t wait until it arrives and I can give it a spin. LOL
I must also runfess that I’ve started training for a half marathon. Which one, you ask? None. I just need a plan if I’m ever going to run more than 3 miles at a time again. I keep doing stupid things like running MCM or a random 25k completely untrained. I’m not even undertrained at this point. I went back to my old friend Hal Higdon to try and find my love of the long run again.
Finally, I must lifefess that I’m just over winter and over the pandemic. February was a mess of cold and rainy/icy. I’m tired of being stuck inside and not seeing anyone. I know we are almost there – both in terms of the weather and the vaccine roll out, but I feel like a kid in the last month of school. My attention span is gone and I’m antsy as all hell. Thank goodness we actually had a few amazing weather days this week…
The last few weeks have been rough weather wise. Yesterday and today are a gift for sure. I don’t think we will have any real races until end of May just in time for our summer heat 🙂
Yep. I’d agree…
I’m sitting here poolside, thanking my lucky stars for a billionth time that we decided to spend February in FL. A break from winter was very much needed. Nope, I have no plans to race. The only reason I might is for social reasons and that’s not happening anytime soon so I keep on keeping on with my 2-3 milers. Haha!
Enjoy your new bike! Looks like that one and my Schwinn are made by the same company. I thought they looked eerily similar!
It’s the same. When I bought it, it was supposed to come faster. Now I sit and wait…
I’m really itching to run a live race, and we have a bunch of them down here! I have to pick one and sign up.
So are you planning for a full marathon in the fall? Or a half? Either way starting a training schedule sounds like a great idea.
I think most of us are happy to say goodbye to February!
MCM is a full, but I’ve been slacking so much that I need to get back up to half marathon shape. I used to always be able to knock out a half marathon…
That’s awesome that you are putting a plan together to keep you motivated!
I like your bike. I have a bowflex gym that I love but did not know they made bikes.
I hope you enjoy it!
I am also over this Winter and the snow. Thankfully we are having warmer weather and most of it has melted. I am no longer a fun of virtual races but do like the races where I need to complete a certain number of miles in a time frame. It is motivating to me.
I feel you!! February was pretty brutal to Iowa, weather-wise, but is ending nicely. I actually have a live race next weekend & am hoping I’ll remember how to pin on the bib.
Totally agree that February was a pretty miserable month, lol – I’m glad it’s over! I’m also over the virtual races and I’m glad to be working towards a half marathon that for now is planned to proceed live. I was just talking to someone about MCM today – that is still on my bucket list!
That last month of school analogy is spot on. So close, yet it seems so far away. Congrats on the new toy
