Finalizing my 2019 race plans

March 12, 2019 by MCM Mama 1 Comment

I can’t believe it’s March and I’m just now figuring out my race plans. Everything hinged on getting into the new Marine Corps Marathon 50k. If I had not, I’d have upended everything to find another race.

So, here we go…

March 17 – Four Courts Four – I run or volunteer at this race as often as possible (sometimes both.) It starts with a wicked fast downhill, but what goes down must come up, so it ends with a painful uphill. Luckily it also ends with beer. Guinness to be exact.

March 24 – Mike to Mike Half Marathon (All American Marathon) – This race goes from downtown Fayetteville to Fort Bragg. I’m pretty excited about this race because a number of Skirt Sports ambassadors will be there. I’m less excited about the fact that my longest run so far was 6 miles. I’m going to run 8 on Friday, but pretty sure I’m not ready for this.

March 31 – Rosaryville 10K – This is a trail race, but rumor has it that it’s not very technical. We are all going to pray that’s the actual case.

May 5 – National Women’s Half – I ran this last year and it was a nice course. Somehow I got caught up in the crazy and signed up for a ridiculously low amount when it opened.

May 12 – Mother’s Day 4 Miler – I bought a code from a friend (totally a legit thing) to use for the Reston 10 Miler, but then went out of town that weekend. So, I have to use the code this year with this race company. The only non-5k that works for me is this one, so I’ll be running it.

June 2 – Colorado 13er (I’m running the 10K) – I’m heading out to Denver once again for the Skirt Sports Ambassador Retreat that always culminates in the 13er. I prefer to run the shorter distances, both because of the altitude and because I’d rather spend my time cheering people on and eating cake.

August 16/18 – Ragnar Minnesota – I’m running this one as an ultra again, assuming I can manage to get everyone committed in time. I’m already in the area on that weekend, so it’s the perfect time to knock out another Ragnar.

September 14 – ZOOMA Great Lakes – I’m working this one, so I’ll have to cram in training runs around being on my feet for hours and hours. That’s training, right?

September 21 – Ragnar Sunset DC – Ragnar has come up with a cool new concept where your team takes turn running all day, starting and ending in one location. I’ll be running 4.5ish miles two times out at National Harbor. I’m pretty psyched because Beer Geek is actually joining my team for this.

September 29 – ZOOMA Cape Cod – Yep, another one where I’ll be working and trying to get in LONG training runs. Oy.

October 13 – Helltown Half – I currently plan to run 15-18 on Saturday and then follow it up with this half marathon, to round out my MCM 50K training. I love the name and I figure I may very well be in Helltown running the day after my long run. But I know from past training that back to back long runs work really well for me.

October 20 – ZOOMA Amelia Island – I’ll be thankful to just be working this one as I’ll be tapering for MCM. I’m not sure that spending hours on my feet for 2-3 days is great for tapering, but it is what it is.

October 27 – Marine Corps Marathon 50K! – Fingers crossed that I actually manage to get in a decent training season this summer. I have to maintain a 12:30 pace, which I’ve done for every marathon except my last one. Apparently not training made a difference LOL, so I do not plan to make that mistake again.

November 2 – ZOOMA Wine Country – I won’t be running, and to be honest, I expect this to be my most challenging weekend after running the 50K the weekend before. Hopefully my awesome boss will let me have the sitting down duties.

December 7 – Rehoboth Half Marathon – I love this race! Even when I’m undertrained I enjoy the race and the post race party is one heck of a fun time. For once, I actually registered early and took advantage of the cheapest pricing!

Looking at my list I’m both “oh wow, that’s a lot” and “hmm, I need to find races in April and July.” I may have to sneak in at least one more half marathon because only 4 half marathons in 2019 is not acceptable. Obviously I’m crazy…

What fun stuff do you have on your race calendar this year? Want to join me for a race? (If you want to join me at ZOOMA, use code RUNWITHME for 15% off any race or challenge.)

Wow, that’s a full calendar! I’ve got Cherry Blossom and then GWPC. I’ll probably do Lawyers Have Heart.

Coffee with a side of rain

Coffee with a side of rain

Apparently I only write coffee posts when I’m in Michigan. I guess my body is hard wired to wake up early, but the college kid has no interest in an early wakeup call. I’d run, but it’s raining and I did not bring the right running clothes, so here I sit. I’m joining Deb and […]
