Here we go! Another school year is about to begin. I’m kind of in denial that I no longer have a kid in elementary school, but the big change this brings is that everyone is out of the house before 7:30am now. We’ll see if that means I get out the door to run earlier or not.
Fall is my favorite time of year. It’s also prime marathon training time. My training plan calls for multiple double digit runs per week, starting this week. Gulp! Thankfully, the weather tends to start cooling down and the return to school gets me back on a running schedule.
Know what else changes about my training? Races! I’ve got a lot coming up and will talk about that soon.
I don’t race a lot during the summer. Between vacations and the weather and the lack of longer races in the hottest part of summer, it’s hard to find a lot of options. And if I’m not going to be running a long run, I’m too cheap to pay the money.
Last week was a pretty good training week – it was cooler than it usually is this time of year and I managed to get up and be running before 7am twice. My first 16 miler for MCM is in the books AND I managed to do it not on the rainy day.
I don’t mind rain, but I was much happier to be running 6 miles in the downpour rather than 16.
Today I have 1.5 mile repeats but will stop running at precisely 9.3 miles.
Why? Because 9.3 miles from now I will hit
10,000 miles!
OK, I know I’ve run more than that, but since I started recording runs, I’ll have hit 10,000 miles recorded.
So, are you looking forward to fall? Does your training change?
Sorry this is the world’s most scattered post. I’ve spent the day trying to organize everyone for the big day tomorrow.
Don’t forget our new upcoming schedule!

Congratulations on 10,000 miles! Wow! Wow! Wow! Best of luck with your fall training and all those races you have lined up!
Congrats on 10,000 miles. I’ve no idea how many I’ve run the last 8 years, but I know it’s not that much! Funny, I don’t really pay that much attention to my mileage except for weekly, which is important to me.
But multiple double digit runs? Shudders.
Hoping to outrun the thunderstorms today; unfortunately it means a hot run!
Wow! That’s amazing! I have no idea about my total miles. Since I’ve been running for a long time, it’s probably quite high but who knows?
Congrats on reaching 10,000 miles. That is a lot of miles! My schedule has gotten better now that summer is over with too. Hopefully more longer runs will go down in the books.
Dang…10,000 miles is pretty monumental! Does that come with a special draft of something in celebration? That’s impressive! I look forward to watching YOU run all those double digits because I won’t be 😉
All the best with the new school year. I do love getting to run once I get the kids off. I volunteered at school lunch last week and the middle school cafeteria shares a wall with the elementary school. Somebody opened the door and the kids looked SO tiny! We don’t have babies anymore!
Congrats!! That’s a ton of miles!!! Hope you’re able to get out earlier now that kids are out early for school. That’d be a great way to start the day. Enjoy fall!
Yay for fall! Good luck with back to school this week. Hope you are able to get out earlier for your runs now. 🙂
Fall is my favorite season! I can’t wait to get all of my fall clothes out, running and non-running. I love it when I can get up on the weekends and enjoy the cool temps before the sun rises. I haven’t been getting up early on the weekends since I can just go to my gym, so that’s one thing I’ll need to start again. Get up early to be running early.
I love fall racing and fall running. Bring on the cooler temps. Hope we will be meeting up at one of the races
Right there with ya! Kids in school means I have more time to run!
I’m very happy to be moving to fall training. I just know I’ll be less miserable and gross feelnig with the cooler temps! Glad to hear marathon training is going well!
