Jones and Shoo got new fish tanks for their birthdays in October. Shoo’s tank is doing well and the fish seem happy. Jones’ tank seems to be having a bit of a problem. The neons are doing fine, but we’ve lost two guppies so far. Today, I noticed his algae eater was upside down in a plant. I tapped the glass and it didn’t move. Uh Oh. I opened the lid and moved the plant with my hand and it didn’t move. Crap. Both boys were with me as I attempted to use the net to get the dead fish out. I had no luck and the plant came loose, so I grabbed the plant and headed over to the trash can to attempt to get the fish out. As I moved the pieces of the plant to unwedge the fish, suddenly it jumped! The boys and I all jumped and I threw the plant into the trashcan in reaction. Apparently it was just totally stuck in between the pieces! I managed to get the fish back into the tank, where he promptly headed for a quiet spot. I’m glad the fish isn’t dead, but I think I lost at least a few days of life when he scared the crap out of me. And the plant? I put that fish trap in the trash.
On a running note, I’ve been asked to be a “buddy runner” for the Girls on the Run race this weekend. Apparently not all of the girls have a family member who can/wants to run with them. I’m really looking forward to it. Since I don’t have a daughter of my own to run with, it’ll be a neat experience. I’m hoping to volunteer with our school’s program once Shoo is in elementary school.
I didn’t run today, but Wednesdays are always hard and I used my Shoo free time to go to Costco. I did figure out that I can take four days completely off and still make 1000 because I never run less than three miles at a time. On a non-running note, I continue to knock out my to do list. Today I ordered our Christmas cards (and got 50 extra for free, so if you want to receive a card from us, give me a shout LOL) and I’ve finished the calendar and just await Beer Geek’s approval on that. Now if I could just manage to get to bed before midnight ONE night this week…
OMG! Too funny about the fish. We’ve never had luck with fish either, and we finally got rid of the tank all together. I even had a few of those dwarf frogs, and one of them committed suicide by jumping out! By the time i found it, a foot away from the tank on the floor it was totally dehydrated and crispy 🙁
The GOTR thing is very cool
Tell me the secret! We got Keira a fish tank for her B-day in Jan and EVERYTHING died except 1 snail which we still have *sigh* And honestly? I’m hoping it will kick the bucket soon so I can get rid of the tank :-X I’m sick of dealing with the all the fishy death HAHA
Being a buddy runner sounds great—it’s win/win. You help someone and you log a few more miles in for your 1000. The fish thing would definitely have startled me. Nothing like thinking a creature is dead and it comes back to life…. like in the movies!
You have the ability to bring dead fish back to life! It was a Christmas miracle!
Nice job recovering your composure and rescuing the fish from trash can death! I bet the boys will have fun retelling that story! The buddy run thing sounds fun– I can’t wait to hear how it goes. I was thinking about volunteering with G.O.T.R. if I can make it work in my schedule.
