I confess: I spend a lot of time dreaming of traveling and racing. I love both, but we are in a decidedly not flexible time in our lives. Between the school schedules of a teen and a tween, travel soccer, orchestra, and Beer Geek’s job, it seems like there is never enough time or money to do all the races I want to do. While I’m certainly not wishing my time with my kids away, I do look forward to the day when Beer Geek is retired and we can be more spontaneous about traveling.
And when that day comes, here are the races I want to run…
- Chicago Marathon – I have zero interest in any of the other huge marathons, but I admit that I got some serious FOMO when I started hearing from all of my local and blog friends that they got in. I probably won’t get to run it until we move north to Madison, but this is definitely high on my “someday” list.
- The Boilermaker – this race has been on my bucket list since I started racing. Saranac Beer was my “gateway beer” to craft beer. I loved it so much I named my first cat after it. (My second cat was named after Pete’s Wicked Ale. Ella came with her name, so is not actually named after a beer…)
- Midnight Sun Run in Iceland – this was actually a potential race for this coming summer, but life sometimes gets in the way of plans. This race starts and finishes at geothermal outdoor swimming pools, which runners are welcome to use. Yes, please!
- Angel Fire Half Marathon – Angel Fire, NM is gorgeous! And Beer Geek has family there, so I’d love run this race. Too bad I’ve already race in New Mexico.
- Ragnar Relay So Cal – Now that I’m a Ragnar Ambassador, I feel like it’s my duty to run all the races. OK, really it’s not a requirement at all, but man, wouldn’t it be awesome to run a bunch of different Ragnars? And who could turn down southern California. Bonus: my brother and sister in law live there, so I’d get to visit family. But, oh those hills…
Do you dream about the races you’d run if you had unlimited time and money? (Or is it just me?) My wish list is really a whole lot longer than this, but this is today’s version. Tell me your dream races (I’m always looking for new things to add to my list…)
I’m linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday Five 2.0
I wouldn’t mind visiting chicago but I know I won’t run the marathon..haha but I did hear it’s a great course!
Do you plan to move to Madison in the future?
I do look at races I’d like to do, but work and budget get in the way. I’m looking forward to Denver because I know a lot of races happen there. I may not have to travel, and I know there are some good options.
Good grief those hills!
I do dream of running all the races – my bucket list is long…sadly funds are not 😉
Oh! What a great list!! I would love to have the time and money for all the races!!
Ooh… I hadn’t heard of the midnight sun race in Iceland! We went to Iceland earlier this year and I fell in love with it. The hot springs are amazing 🙂 I’m going to have to go look into that race now.
London Marathon–I’ve entered their lottery several times with no luck, but I’m not willing or able to do the Marathon Tours or charity route right now. Reykjavik Marathon (or half), which is on my birthday this August, but it’s sadly not in the cards this year. Midnight Sun Marathon in Norway–tried to plan this a few years ago, but flight planning didn’t work. I may let this one go, because one of the reasons to go was to travel to Norway with my parents, and they may not be able to travel internationally anymore. The Iceland marathon you mention sounds appealing too!
I totally want to do that race in Iceland… I haven’t heard of it before but now you’ve given me some FOMO!
I totally obsess about races I want to run. I’ve definitely wanted to do a Ragnar relay for a long time, but haven’t been able to get a big enough crew together and organized to do it! Someday! You should do Chicago though – it’s a really special race!
That midnight Iceland run sounds amazing!! I’ll have to add that one to my list. I’d love to do the Bermuda marathon, the Honolulu Marathon, and the Maui Oceanfront Marathon. Someday.
Having run my dream race (Big Sur), now finding races is interesting…nothing will compare, right? I’m looking forward to Grandma’s–it’s a race I’ve always wanted to do! But even tho I’ve done Chicago 3 times, I am having FOMO!
We are looking at trying to get into Ragnar Napa next November if you’d like to join us!
I sit and do the same thing, I make lists of races I would love to do. I gravitate towards smaller races though, the logistics at big races make me nervous lol
My sister and I keep talking about meeting in Chicago one year to run a marathon together, we need to make it happen once!!
