I love to travel. I love to run. I love it even more when I can combine the two activities. After all, my header is designed to record my races in different states.(Beer Geek and I are already talking about retiring and buying an RV and traveling the country, collecting counties and hitting up races.)
Seems fitting that today’s topic for Friday Five with Courtney, Mar, and Cynthia is “5 Trips”. It was a pretty open ended topic, so I’m going to tell you about the 5 trips I have left in 2015. If I were to talk about where I want to travel, well, the list would be way longer than five.
1. First up is the trip I’ve been running my legs off for: I’m heading up to the Mainly Marathons Independence Series to run back to back marathons. Yes, 52.4 miles in two days. Even better, I’m being joined by one of my closest friends: Kim from Just Trying Is For Little Girls. It pains me that we live on opposite coasts, so any opportunity to meet up makes me super happy. As a bonus, I’ll earn Marathon Maniac status AND race in two new states. Win!
2. Shortly after I return from that lovely trip, Beer Geek and I are headed to Cape Cod to celebrate our 20th anniversary. First, how on earth can we have been married 20 years? It seems like just yesterday he was proposing in front of the 7-11! While we are up there, I’m (literally) running off and running Ragnar Cape Cod. We’ll meet back up after for a few more days before coming home and celebrating at a party with our closest friends.
3. Next? Our summer vacation to Asheville, North Carolina. I’m really excited as I’ve never been there and it’s supposed to beautiful. Also? Beer. They have tons of brewpubs. At this point, I have not found a race to run, but I’m ok with that. Sometimes it’s nice to just have a vacation and do a few runs for fun.
Source (I think we are staying right under the mass of brewpubs!)
4. Then the boys and I will head back to Wisconsin. I love visiting there, especially in the summer when my mom’s garden allows me to gorge on fresh veggies every day. Also, it tends to be cooler than Virginia, so I’ll definitely be planning one of my long runs for MCM for while I’m there. Also, Beer Geek and I will be attending the Great Taste of the Midwest when he comes out for a bit. I think this is our 4th year going and it’s always a blast!
5. Finally, Beer Geek and I will be heading out for another Mainly Marathon series. Ever since I ran the Dust Bowl series, I’ve been eyeing the Center of the Nation series. It’s 6 states in 6 days now: ND, SD, WY, MT, NE, and CO. I already have Colorado, but I want the medal you get for all the states, so I’ll be running all 6 (5 new states!)
There are so many other places I’d love to go and so many other races I’d love run, but free time and finances dictate that those are my trips this year. Who knows what kind of crazy I’ll come up with for 2016!

Wow! Back to back marathons. That it quite intense. I have never heard of that series.
Goodluck!

I’m hoping it will be fun as the Mainly Marathon series usually are enjoyable, but it’s certainly going to be challenging.
Those trips sound like so much fun!!
Congratulations on your 20th wedding anniversary – that is wonderful!
We are looking at somewhere in the west for this summer, I would like to go to Glacier National Park in Montana!
Back to back marathons is amazing!

Glacier National Park is on my “someday” list. We needed a driving vacation this year as we are doing too many big trips.
Wow, back to back marathons is hardcore. Cape Cod is beautiful in the summer and a trip to Asheville will be really fun too. I ran the Asheville half marathon last June and it was super hilly! Congrats on your 20th anniversary, we have had double the fun and celebrate our 40th in June. This is a big year with Boston Marathon and NYC Marathon on my racing calendar!

Luckily? there aren’t any races while we are there. Congrats on 40 years, that’s impressive.
I’m super excited about your trip to Asheville since that’s a place I’d love to visit!!

It should be a blast. I’m really looking forward to it.
Sounds like a busy, fun summer. You’re lucky your husband is so supportive of your running! I don’t know that mine would do all that traveling with me, just so I could run.
BTW I dreamed I ran 2 marathons 2 days in a row. I commented on one of your posts about that this week, so it must have been in my subconscious. Gak!

Don’t think he’s doing it so I can run – there’s always some side adventure that he wants to do. I run in the am and he controls the rest of the day LOL. It works well.
Funny that you dreamed about running two marathons LOL.
Racecations definitely sound like a lot of fun! I’m going to be traveling a lot later on this year for audition rotations, and I’m hoping I’ll get a chance to check out some fun places along the way!!

I love travel. There’s so much to see without even leaving the U.S.
That is one thing I miss about Wisconsin, all the fresh produce. We would go to strawberry farms and raspberry farms and pick as many as we could fit in two baskets. We had to bring two because we’d eat a lot of one basket on the way home.

Yum! I love that my mom grows so much. I literally just head to the backyard…
Great lineup of trips! I loved my trip to Asheville. You can buy a pass just to the grounds of the Biltmore and get a great run in exploring “America’s Largest Backyard”.
Ooh, that sounds cool! Thanks for that tip!
You are a running machine!! I love that you have a race during almost every vacation – you are one active, awesome inspiration!

Thanks, I’m lucky my husband supports my running habit LOL.
I love to combine travelling and racing together…hence why we’ve been to Disney World so many times recently. I’d love to do some races in Washington, Oregon or somewhere on the east coast. Your Dust Bowl series of races sounds really neat!

I love Washington and Oregon, just wish they weren’t so far away.
That is just what I want to do! We bought an RV in the fall and have since then taken it on 4 different race trips! I do the running my husband will ride his back when he can. I love it! I’m always looking for trips to enjoy both running and our RV! You calendar is filled with great trips! Wow 2 full marathons in 2 days you ROCK!!!

I’m so jealous! We have to get the boys through college before we can head out with an RV, but some day…
There really is NOTHING better than combining running with traveling. Such a great way to see a place. You have an awesome summer lined up!

Asheville is gorgeous – you will really love it there. Very relaxed and super hipster! Love love love it! The race in 6 states sounds fantastic – what an adventure!! Dave’s family is from WI and we are hoping to make it there this summer! Fingers crossed!

Nice list!!!
Cape Cod!-need to add that to my list!
It’s so beautiful up there. I can’t wait.
You’ve got a really exciting year of travel and running planned. There’s a fair few new medals that you’ll be adding to your collection.

This is such a fun post! I love Cape Cod so much!
Our next trip is going to be a cruise. Will be reporting on that, of course!

Have fun! I’ve never been on a big cruise and just can’t see Beer Geek enjoying that, so probably never will LOL.
Sounds like another exciting, adventure-packed year. I’m not collecting states, but that Mainly Marathon Midwest thing would give me lots of new ones as I’ve one run in CO out of those as well.
Marcia recently posted…Friday Five
Yep, it’s five new half marathon states for me. I can’t wait!
WOW! That’s a LOT of running! I don’t think I could handle that haha. Here I am considering signing up for a 5k/10k challenge and a 10k/1/2 marathon challenge thinking that’s a lot! Good luck on all those races! And I hope you have a blast at Ragnar! So many people are doing that one and I’m jealous haha I want to do one!
