I woke up this morning to the sound of rain on the roof. Not exactly what I wanted to hear when I planned to run to a race, run a race, and then run home again. Hmm, what to wear and what to do? After changing my mind a few times, I settled on capris and my long sleeve half zip. Oh, and a rain jacket and a ride to the race. ;o)
Beer Geek and the boys dropped me off a few blocks from the race. Immediately, the heavens opened and I was drenched! I had my rain jacket on, but my legs and shoes were soaked. Oh well. I got to the Four Courts pub and ran into a few friends and some of my Pacers peeps and then it was time to take off.
I FLEW down the hill. Seriously. 7:43 for the first mile, which is not only my second fastest mile ever, but also my fastest time down that hill. Mile 2 clocked in at 8:29. Mile 3 was 8:39, which I was VERY happy with as it had the beginnings of the uphill in it. I was, however, sad to see the Leprechaun pass me at mile 3. Then came the HILL. It.kicked.my.butt. 9:36 for that last mile. I am happy to say that I did run the whole thing and I did manage to pick it up at the end, but I missed my 35 minute goal by mere seconds.*
What’s a girl to do after a race like that? Why, drink a Guinness, of course! Part of the shwag of the race was a free beer at the end. I am so all over that, although I have to admit I can’t remember the last time I had a beer at 10 am (besides today LOL).
After the race, it was back to the reality of two sick kids and housework and errands, but it was a great way to start the day! I do hope Pacers does this again next year as it was an awesome race. If they do, I WILL make that hill my beyotch. Just sayin’.
*Numbers don’t add up because Garmin says I ran 4.07. Whatever.
Sounds like fun (well, except that HILL). Great job! Hope the kids are feeling better!
Nice job!! Glad you had fun and yay for beer even at 10 in the morning. Thats why we love races so we can partake in the middle of the day or morning with guilt free abandon! Hope everyone feels better soon!
Sounds like you had a great time despite the rain. You certainly deserved that beer :)Hope the kids feel better soon.
Oh that is just evil to have to run back up a good hill!! Beer after a race, I have not done that yet but I look forward to it ๐
Congratulationz! Those are some great splits. And 9:30 for an uphill is not bad at all (as I anticipate tomorrow's 15K with the first half uphill).
Next year you will pwn the hill and the leprachaun!!!
Sounds like so much fun. Great job. awesome swag!
Still an excellent race on your part and obviously kudos to the race Director for securing a decent beer for post-race celebrations!
Sounds like a great race…and beer at the end? What could be better?
What's with all the compliments, other commenters?!1!? MCM Mama is drinking GUINNESS at ten a.m.!1!THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AN INTERVENTION!1!The point of which intervention was … Next time, SHARE, MCM M.!1! The rest of us wanna "see" leprechauns, too, you know!1!Ooooo, there's one right there! Next to my half-finished bottle of Jack!
Great job on the race! It really is raining a lot! It just wont stop!
Wow, those are some really speedy splits! Sounds like a good decision to take the ride to the race too.
Good for you, despite that darn water coming down on you! You still kicked butt and deserved that beer, no matter what time it was!
Too bad about the rain but you kicked it anyways! Beer at 10 in the morning is in the distance past for me but the whole thing sounds great!
Great Job! Yes St. Patricks day races are all about the beer! I couldn't get mine after my race on Saturday because I forgot my ID. I'm 34 for Christ's sake!! Very disappointed!
I didn't know you had this race on the calendar- but you did awesome! That is one fast start and you hung in very well- even with that HILL! Congratulations!
Nice! I eat cheesecake at breakfast sometimes. Is that the same thing as a Guinness at 10am? ๐
Congrats on the soggy 4 miler! Nothing like a poat-race 10am beer!
What a fun race – awesome job! Hope the kids feel better.
Nice job on a kickass race!
Great job on a rainy race! Sounds like you had a good time despite the weather ๐
Nice job!! I tsounds like you had a good time too:) Beer at 10am….rock star!
wow super fast – good for you ..
Sounds like you deserved that 10 a.m. beer! Nice job!
After a first mile like that, I would've been throwing up that Guinness.Conquer that hill!
All races should be totally flat, if you ask me. Way to rock it and enjoy the post-race rehydrating.
Of course you drank a Guinness after the race! Nice job.
