I love winter running. I am not a fan of heat and humidity, so I’d much rather run in all the layers than sweat through a 100* run. We haven’t had too many days so far this year to pull out the big guns, but since the topic for today’s Tuesdays on the Run is “cold weather gear”, I thought I’d share some that I expect to use yet this winter. I, of course, have some old favorites that I’ve written about before, but here are some new things that I’ve recently gotten.
Skirt Sports Toasty Collection
Skirt Sports recently came out with a “Toasty” collection. This collection has a variety of items for the cold weather runner. I have to admit that somehow I own them all. I know. My favorite so far is the Toasty tights. They have wind resistant panels in all the right places (AKA my rear – where I am always the coldest.) I’ve run in mine a few times and they are perfect when the weather is around freezing. Colder than that? Top them with the Toasty Cheeks skirt to keep those buns warm. (Right now you can get this combo for 15% off + free shipping over at Skirt Sports! (affiliate link)) I admit that I have yet to run in the skirt, but it makes an awesome cover for my tights when I’m walking the kiddo to school. Looking for a warm core? The Toasty vest is well-loved among the Skirt Sports ambassadors! In fact, when I put out a call for pictures, there was no shortage of vest pictures! Thanks to Deborah, Gisgie, Jacy, Cecilia, Jessi, Sam, Jennifer and Sandra for the awesome pictures!
Boco Pom Pom Beanie
Another favorite so far this year is the Boco Beanie. I happen to love the Skirt Sports pink one, but you can get a few other colors/options directly from Boco. This thing is so warm that it’s only been cold enough to wear it to run here once or twice. But on a cold day picking up the kid from school? Yes, please. (Isn’t Lisa adorable in it??? And of course, she has the vest on too…)
Runlites Gloves
To round out my “new” items, I recently got sent a pair of gloves from Runlites to try out. They are warm and soft and perfect for some of the cold runs I’ve been on recently. So far, my night runs have all been too warm for them, so I’ll have to give my opinion on the lighting aspect later. But as a warm glove goes, these are perfect (when I can manage to steal them back from Shoo, that is.)
What new winter things have you found this year? Any updates on an oldy but a goody?
And if you are ready to be done with winter, check out this gorgeous new dress that Skirt Sports will be coming out with soon…

Disclaimer: I am a Skirt Sports Ambassador and as such, get compensated with gear and discounts. I also received the gloves to review. All opinions are my own.
That beanie looks great! I only have one hat, and other than that I run with a headband when its cold. I could definitely use something warmer to wear on my head! Those gloves look really great too!
I’m such a baby when it comes to running outside in the cold this year- I need those gloves! And I love running skirts- so cool you are an ambassador!!! I just discovered I love brightly colored running socks- I used to only wear white but lately I’ve been running in ALL the colors- pink, yelkow, orange, etc.
I <3 <3 <3 my Buff! It's probably the one thing that is consistent every year that I wear to keep my ears, head, and neck from freezing off.:)
Skirt sports does come out with some great things!
My favorite thing this year are my Athleta thermal tights that I found at Marshalls! I love these tights so much–they keep me warm without restricting my movement. In fact, I’d pay full price for another pair.
Hmm, I need to check out those gloves! I despise cold weather but if my hands and feet are warm, I can tolerate it more. Not enough to run in when it’s super chilly though. 😉 But that beanie! Cute!
Well, I love my puffer vests…and in Iowa, I’ve had plenty of opportunity to wear them. 😉
I love the idea of the Runlites gloves-I’m typing this comment at 7:45am and it’s just starting to get daylight outside-these would be perfect for my early morning runs!
I really love the toasty skirt! I also bought several pairs of thermal tights from Athleta for those too cold for regular tights, not cold enough for toasty tights days.
I’m waiting until after my birthday (just in case), but Oiselle has a winter hat that has a hole for a ponytail. Whoever came up with that is a genius! I hate winter hats because I had to stuff my hair up inside, which causes all sorts of itching. A winter hat where I don’t have to do that and my head stays warm? I’m all over that.
The Toasty tights look great! I definitely need more cold weather pants, it seems that a lot of my tights are now too tight!
I am in love with the vest! It’s really been my go to this winter so far.
I agree, we haven’t had it too bad hear weather wise yet (knock on wood). I have some fleece tights I got for a Christmas that I haven’t even been able to use yet. I suppose if I ran in the morning they would be just fine but by the time I get out to run in the afternoon they are way too warm. I have some Run Lite mittens coming and I am excited for them.
We’ve had some super cold days already, so I’ve gotten to use a lot of my winter gear already sadly. I saw those gloves in a magazine recently – that’s a great idea between the cold and the greater dark hours we get this time of year!
(((here is where the TEXAN confesses she’s alll kinda excited about the new dress and apologizes she doesnt get real winters here :-)))
I do want to see more of that dress!
You’ve got some great winter gear! Do the gloves work with smartphones?
