I’ve been running with very general goals since I injured my achilles back in November. My main “goal” after that was just to get back up and running without reinjuring myself. I accomplished that and then some when I trained for and ran the National Half Marathon this past March.
My goal for April was to become a barefoot/minimalist runner. I feel like I’ve accomplished that. I ran 72.5 miles in April – all of them in VFFs, Merrell Barefoot Pace Gloves, or completely barefoot on the treadmill. I’ve felt my calves, ankles, and feet become stronger (who knew that running barefoot would make it easier to rock the 4 inch heels!)
Now it’s time to get serious!
So, here are my short term and my long term goals for now (will add more as the year progresses)
- Hit 100 miles for the month of May
- Run at least one double digit run in May
And the big goal for the year?
Run the Philly Half Marathon in November in VFFs (Merrells if it’s cold and wet) AND PR, which means sub-2 hour.
Yes, it’s time to stop training to be a minimalist runner and start being a minimalist runner in training!
I love those goals! best of luck!yes, my surgery is outpatient
Congrats on committing to running that half in vff's. I think that was the hardest part for me is just committing to running in my vff's. I dont know that I would of committed if I didnt have that hamstring issue when I run in running shoes. But My saying is GOD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS.
I had to read the title twice. At first I thought it said "Goatz" – and wondered why on earth you decided to get goats. LOL
Great goals! Can't wait to follow along as you reach them!!
Great goals! Running a half in minimalist shoes will be a real accomplishment!
I love your big goal for the year and I have no doubt that you will do it!
excited about your goals! you will do great.
Woo! Philly half is the best race. I'm sorry I have to miss it this year. I need to come up with a goal myself. I'm focusing on shorter races and maybe using a time goal, but that seems so amorphous!
You have some great goals for this season. I need to get on my goals too.I totally thought of you when I was running my recent half. When I got dressed that morning I went into my sock drawer and specifically searched for the socks I won from you last year. I ran my marathon with those socks and so many other halfs:) They are my favorite…getting a little worn but still first choice. At mile 12 my feet started to get a little sore. I was thinking, "Thank God I wore Mama's socks because if I didn't my feet would of been screaming back at mile 5." Miss you! Enjoy the rest of your week.
Last year when I ran with you I think you were just starting this. You have come a long ways.
Whoo hoo! You've so got this!
Those are great goals! You've come really far with the barefoot/minimalist running. It'll be exciting to hit 100 minimalist miles!
awesome goals 🙂
OHHH I like those goals! Especially cuz I'm going to be at Philly too. 😀
