Riverboat Series Half Marathon – Tennessee
April 13, 2014
2:18:41
Temp: mid-60s, humid, and windy
What I wore: hat, short sleeve shirt, Skirt Sports Happy Girl skirt,
PROCompression socks, and (sadly) a new pair of Brooks Pure Flow 2
This race was everything that the first one wasn’t. It was all paved, the hills were slight rollers, and there was a good amount of shade. I woke up feeling pretty good and was ready to go. In fact, I rocked the first five miles and then made the decision to slow down so I would have enough for the rest of the week. Unfortunately, at mile 8, I discovered that the Brooks shoes hurt my foot. The last four miles were a bit of a struggle as I tried to land lightly and not hurt my foot. Even with the foot pain, I had a great race and a really fun time!
The good:
- The course was in the woods on pavement with slight rollers – basically the perfect course for me.
- As expected, the race was incredibly well organized and the food options were awesome.
- After having dinner with a bunch of runners after the first race, I had tons of new friends on the course.
- Real bathrooms. Always a favorite.
- I met someone who’s cadence matched mine really well and we ran and chatted for almost the entire first half of the race. (She went on to rock out a marathon in 4:30ish)
The bad:
- My foot pain. It’s the same I used to get. Apparently the Altra Intuitions really are what are helping my foot. At least I’ve found a solution.
The ugly:
- There really was nothing ugly about this race. It went really, really well for me and I felt good during and after!

2 down, 3 to go!
Congrats on HM #5! Like the color coordination amongst your friends. Hope the rest of the halves went well.
Yesterday was a bit wet (understatement LOL) and today was cold, but I’m almost done!
Damn- we made Tennessee look good!
Nice run. The weather was perfect!
Congrats! I loved your hotel room picture where you collapsed on the bed – did I see it on Instagram? Did you explain how you find so many weekday runs?
I posted that picture only on MRTT. ;o) This is a series put on through Mainly Marathons. They have 5 or 6 different series, each with 5 different states. So much fun!
Whew I’m getting tired just following along on your half marathon spree lol. Great job though, and Kim is so right, y’all DO make TN look good 😀 Go vols (sry I couldn’t help myself lol)
I’ll forgive you the Vols comment. ;o) I’m starting to get tired myself…
Congratulations. Sounds like a great time!
thanks! I’m having fun!
Yay! You are rocking these races out 🙂
Way to go!! Glad this one was better than the day before!!
So, in the series is there the option to do a half or full at each location or just some?
Me too LOL.
Yay – feeling good during and after the race. That’s great!
Thanks!
Awesome! Looks like so much fun!
Awesome race! Boo to the foot pain but at least you figured it out =/
Thumbs up to you guys. It looks like you guys really had a blast. Just started training for a marathon later in the year. You guys have inspired me.
Helen, I must say that I agree with your comment. I am looking forward to a 20k run in the next week. This blog keeps me motivated. Will let you know how I get on.
