Riverboat Series Half Marathon -Mississippi

Temp: low 40s and windy
What I wore: hat, Bondi band, short sleeve shirt, YMX arm sleeves, Skirt Sports Happy Girl skirt,
PROCompression socks, Brooks Essential Run jacket, gloves, and my trusty Altra Intuitions
Once again, the weather decided to throw us for a loop. It was cold and windy, but sunny. I was so glad that on a whim I’d packed a pair of gloves and my arm sleeves! The course was another mostly flat 1.31 mile out and back. Thanks to the previous day’s rain, the course was changed a bit and I liked the change a lot. This was the first race where I could tell I had trained hard all winter and I felt AWESOME the entire time.
The good:
- The course was paved and mostly flat.
- I chatted with tons of different runners. Everyone was so happy to not be sopping wet!
- I felt great! I think I had a smile on my face for the entire run.
- Beer Geek’s mom and step-dad were camping there, so they got to see me run.
- Chocolate creme Oreos.
The bad:
- The wind. Since it was two out and back legs to make up the 1.31 miles, we had the wind in our faces about half the time.
- I missed having Kim and her friends to share the experience with.
The ugly:
- Nothing. It was an awesome race.
And, just in case you were wondering how we kept track of all the laps, take a look at my arm…
Each time we finished a lap we got a rubber band!

How was it running a half marathon in laps? How do you mentally get through that?
It’s actually awesome – lots of people to chat with. It’s a running party!
I ran in last year’s Center of the Nation Series (Nebraska, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana… Clint is an amazing race organizer! I think many who ran that series were at Riverboat. It’s exactly that….a running party! The medals are the best part. And I SAVED ALL MY RUBBERBANDS =)
This was my second series (I ran the first Dust Bowl series), so it was fun to see how far they’ve come in their race organization. And there were people there that I met last year, so that was awesome too. Love the running party!
i am just so stinking proud of you! i have loved reading all your recaps and would love to do a series like this someday!
Thank you! I love doing them. I highly recommend Mainly Marathons – they run an awesome race.
Way to go!
I’m amazed at what the body can do, back to back half marathons and you are doing awesome! Sure the weather could be better, but you can’t control that!
I’m not sure I could do such a short course!
It’s surprisingly fun. With the small number of people, a longer course gets lonely…
You are awesome! 😉 So you did 10 laps of 1.31 miles?
You are amazing!! Congrats on another awesome race.
I’m a day late but no way was I going to miss one of the race recaps! Glad that this one was so great and didn’t have any ugly!!
Congratulations! Another one done. Looks like you’re having a ball!
Congratulations! And omg I think the rubber bands would drive me insannnnnne!
Oddly, they didn’t bother me at all… Except when I was trying to get them off…
