Mainly Marathons Appalachian Series – Alabama

What I wore: hat, tank top, a Skirt Sports Lotta Breeze Skirt, compression socks, and Altra Rivera
Location: Macon, GA (State #40!)
After the race in Alabama, I decided that taking the early start in Georgia made sense. Beer Geek could drop me off and go back to the hotel and then he would not have to wait as long for me to finish when he was done with his 10K.
We started off in the dark, which made it hard to tell exactly what the topography was, but it was cool and quiet and a nice first lap. It was 6 laps again and an out and back on a paved surface with plenty of shade. I ended up loving this course and on my second to the last loop, I ran the back half with a friend and ended up pushing my pace quite a bit. But I made up with it on the final course when I walked with the founder of Mainly Marathons and chatted about how far they’d come – I ran their very first series when they were figuring all this out!
The good:
- The course was lightly rolling hills. My tired legs truly appreciated the small ups and downs.
- Spending time with some friends instead of caring about my finish time.
- Chocolate milk at the end. (I generally avoid dairy, but this was worth it!)
The bad:
- No bad on this race!
The ugly:
- I chafed on my inner thighs for the first time EVER while wearing a Lotta Breeze skirt. I guess my shorts rode up just a bit.
Would I run this race again?
Yes! This was a lovely course and I totally would have been as fast as the previous day if I’d not been so social.
