It’s been about 7 years since I first put on a Skirt Sports skirt and went out for a run. That first skirt was the Happy Hour skirt (basically a Happy Girl without the pockets). I fell in love with that skirt – for running. As I slowly built up my collection (I was the queen of clearance sales and ebay), I got in the habit of putting on a running skirt, running bra, and tank top when I’d get up. As a stay at home mom to two, I needed to be ready at any moment to head out on a run. Slowly but surely, the Happy Girl became a staple in my “mom uniform.”
In the last few years, my non-Skirt wardrobe has dwindled. I *live* in Happy Girls when it’s warm and Lotta Breeze Capri when it’s cooler. In the dead of winter, I’m more likely to be in the Hangout sweats, but I still frequently pair a Happy Girl with tights and boots. So, it was a pretty natural progression to begin wearing Skirt on all my travels. After all, they pack small and wrinkle free, they are super comfortable, and they have POCKETS!
My skirts have gone some pretty exciting places too…
Australia
I wore a Happy Girl most days and my biggest regret was that I didn’t take more. What else can you go out to a nice place for dinner in after spending a whole day traipsing around the zoo?
New Zealand
It was chilly in New Zealand and I forgot my tights, so my poor Happy Girls only got pulled out once. But the Wonder Wool jacket? Yeah, I wore that every single day. I also highly recommend the Dakota capris for the super long flights. Super comfy and I didn’t look like I was traveling in workout clothes.
Asheville, North Carolina
We spent an entire week hiking and going to brewpubs. I wore Skirt Sports to hike, to run, to white water raft (the Go Longer shorts are awesome for that), and drink beer. A whole lot of beer in fact.
Colorado and New Mexico
This was an amazing trip – we got to visit family, see Chaco Canyon, visit Mesa Verde, and so much more. And, of course, we hit brewpubs. And, of course, my Happy Girls made me happy. What better than a skirt with shorties when you are climbing up a steep, rocky trail.
Grand Rapids, Michigan
Yes, we do like to take our children on vacation to places that have a lot of breweries and brew pubs. As per our usual vacations, we were busy seeing zoos and lighthouses and touring boats and walking on dunes – and then we hit the brewpubs for dinner.
I never planned to become a walking advertisement for Skirt Sports, but apparently that’s who I am now. I even have my Happy Girls separated into groups: ones I only wear for running and ones I wear for life (and occasional races). Add in the Go Longer Skirt, the Mod Quad, and the Jaguar Skirt and I don’t even look like I’m wearing the exact same outfit every day LOL.
And no, the whole point of this post was not to justify my Happy Girl collection or maybe it was.
Only time will tell where I’m going to wear them next…

Your skirts sure have been all over the world! Fun 🙂
Wow your skirts have traveled! So very cool
I was in love the first time I put on a Running Skirt. Now I have several, and they’re so comfy. I love my Oiselle shorts, and the skirts are even more comfortable. I’ll need to get those out for running now that I’m back from Alaska. I definitely needed warmer gear during the cruise.
You definitely get a lot of use out of your skirts! I use to love my running skirts but I’ve kind of grown out of them (literally).
I live in happy girl & mod quads during the summer & yes, my suitcase (like right now) is full of skirts — a fed one pair of non-skirt pants. I actually no longer run in happy girls, but I love them for everyday life!
