It’s been a really really long time since I’ve had a real event to attend. I mean, I wear dresses to weddings and I’ve dressed nicer than jeans many times, but it’s been about 5 years since I had to put on something that would qualify as semi-formal. (The event we are attending is the 105th anniversary of Beer Geek’s fraternity. People will fall mostly into three categories: active brothers and their dates (I’m old enough to be their mom), recent alums (most of whom I don’t know and won’t see again), and people I’ve known for 20+ years. So, I’m not concerned enough to actually go out and buy a new dress.
Here’s what I have in the closet:
Choice 1.
Note the cute detailing at the waist and neckline. Also, it’s cold here, so my shawl will likely be worn. Yes, it is a bright orange. (I also have black and sea foam if you think that one of those would be better.)
Choice 2.
I love the gathering at the waist. I would likely wear either a bold necklace or diamonds… Please ignore the awful lighting and the “just got out of the shower” hair.
Choice 3.
OK, this one isn’t really a choice. This is a brag. I wore this dress to my 10 year high school reunion, which was nearly 15 years (and two kids) ago. It’s shorter than I want to wear and a bit snug through the thighs (thank you, running, for my ginormous thighs), but I was pleased I could still get it on fairly comfortably.
So, Dress 1 or 2?
Do people even wear pantyhose anymore? If yes, black or “nude”? I assume sheers not tights. Gah, I’ve totally lost touch!
Also, I’m assuming cute shoes with spikey heels, right?
In running related news, I was super tired all day after my run. Seriously, when did 7 miles become so hard? I’m a tad sore today, but I’ll work that out with a 4 mile run in a bit.
Ooh, found one last option…
Not the best picture of it and I’d wear opaque tights. If yes on this dress, boots or dressy shoes?
I’m so useless when it comes to clothes besides running outfits…
I’m voting for 1.
My vote is for #2!
I’m a big fan of boots, so that would win me over to #3. They all look great — as do you!
I vote #2
Option 2!! Much more flattering! I might do simple jewelry– simple necklace or diamonds if you have them! A simple heel and if you want sheer pantyhose, go for it! (Think Princess Kate-she rocks those bad boys!) have fun!!
I like #1!
I vote 1.
Number 2- so figure flattering!
I like two the best. I think these days, most people shy away from hose (and good riddens!), although in colder weather, tights and boots always look good. Have fun!
Dress 2 for the win!
Dress #2, no pantyhose, cute shoes and chunky-monkey necklace!
But outfit #3 is fantastic and you look great, I would not change a thing.
Side bar comment: given the age range attending the event, you will see every type of dress!
I say go out and buy everything new! I have the same issue at home, why can you ladies stay on top of running apparel and not real apparel??? LOL…
I like dress #2. I also like the last one you showed (#4?)
Personally, I’m more comfortable in boots with dresses (it’s warmer and I feel less self conscious), so that’s what I would do.
#2 #2 #2!!!!!
I love number 2!
I vote for #1. Sea foam wrap, no hose, fabulous heals, and a bright, chunky necklace.
#4 modern & young but age appropriate, and also nice for fall. yes to black tights with the boots. that color looks great on you, & will be unique & stand out in a sea of black clothing. boots are sexy, and so is the shorter dress. And I’d either do a bold necklace or nothing. I think collar bones look really pretty by themselves. I know that’s kind of weird, but most of the time I think I look better with just a v neck and my pale skin. to each her own! Hope you post a final pic when you’re all dolled up.
All look great, but I vote for 2. No hose.
I like #2 as well, but no matter what you wear you will be gorgeous!!
The second one for sure. Blair’s suggestions are spot on.
I think #2 is most flattering!
I liked #2 and I love to wear boots with dresses!!!!
Have fun at the event!
i vote #2!! LOL at the 15yr-old dress – that is awesome that it still fits though. you’re like me… hanging on to old clothes even though i probably wouldn’t wear them due to being “too old” for that style. i am bad at dressing myself too… i have good intentions but am then lazy / “don’t know what to wear” and end up buying a new dress for every occasion b/c i don’t know how to work what i own.
