I think that Mother Nature is suffering from hot flashes this winter. I’m used to a few random “I can wear a skirt and maybe a tank top” days, but it seems like we’ve had more than normal. And even when it’s “cold”, it’s late fall cold, not winter cold. We haven’t even had a real snow yet. (Watch, now March is going to be a mess.)
Because the weather has been so iffy, I runfess that I shifted my runs around and made a rookie mistake. I moved my long run to Wednesday to avoid the rain on Thursday and Friday. I was supposed to do 10 miles, but completely crashed and burned at 6.5. Why? Because it was 80*. Homey don’t play dat in February. Hell, Homey don’t play dat in June!
Because that run sucked so much, I runfess that I have decided to only run the 10K at ZOOMA Texas. My training has left a lot to be desired and I haven’t run farther than 8 miles since December. Add in possible heat, definite hills, and a full day on my feet at the expo the day before and I’m gonna play it smart. Because I have bigger fish to fry. (If you want to join me, right now TEXASRUN will get you 15% off any distance…)
Speaking of frying, I runfess that when I’m running, I get stupid. My run on Tuesday was a challenge of an entirely different nature. I nearly ran through an electrical fire. Yes, I was that zoned out. I was doing a sprint workout and noticed that the lawn I was running next to was burning. In my oxygen deprived state, I thought “that’s a really odd way to replace your grass.” It wasn’t until a couple of construction workers yelled at me that I realized that all the lawns on the block were on fire and I was running right beside them. (The fire department showed up moments later and when I ran by the next day it appeared that the only damage was to the lawns.) But, wow, runner brain at its worst.
And those bigger fish? I runfess that I once again registered for the Marine Corps 17.75 in order to earn my golden ticket. I’m apparently just that good at registering quickly. I had decided to leave it up to fate and fast fingers and apparently I got my answer. I guess that means at some point I need to start adding miles again.
Finally, I runfess that while I am very pleased with my results with the Faster Way to Fat Loss so far, I’ve got a problem with it. Some of my Skirt Sports skirts are too big now. I know you are thinking #firstworldproblem, but I have some unicorns I chased for a long time that I can’t run in now. Talk about unintended consequences. The real runfession though is that I might hang on to them. History says my size has a way of creeping up on me if I don’t keep up the weight lifting. #thetruthhurts
Speaking of Skirt Sports, don’t miss my giveaway of the new and cute Go Longer Skirt. I love the one I got and it’s going to make a lovely addition to my spring wardrobe.
I’m joining Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup and Marcia’s Healthy Slice for Runfessions.
At least the warmer weather you are training in will have you all prepared for Texas!!! I’m ready for some warmer temperatures. February was just brutal here. So was January. I could have run the Antarctica Marathon training in those conditions!
Well, the only tank tops I’ve run in lately are for the runs with ‘Milly or on the stairway INSIDE my house. It’s been brutally cold in Iowa (again). We did have a brief spring-like weekend (two weekends ago), but we’re back in full-on winter weather right now.
OMG an electrical fire? That’s nuts. So is 80 degrees in February. We’ve been mild but nowhere near 80. Thanks to this thyroid thing, sadly I’ve got the reverse problem with all my clothes. Ugh.
The weather has been crazy lately! I cant decide if Im excited for spring or scared for the summer humidity. That is really unbelievable about the electrical fire!
Too funny on the electrical fire! I am loving the milder temps we are having this winter but like you, I am not thrilled about the 80 degree temps. Not excited for summer running. I did not have as dramatic of results as you did with the program but learned a lot. Keep the skirts for now maybe they can be altered
I can totally get in the zone and not notice things. I hope I’d notice a fire, but ya never know. I’ve had multiple friends & Mr. Judy say didn’t you see/hear me at the finish line? Nope, I’m in the zone.
Skirts that are too big are great — but totally not. I get it. They say that you should get rid of clothes that are too large, because it’s inviting the weight to come back, but in this case, no. Just no.
And c’mon up to NY. Yes, we’ve had a lot of unseasonable weather. Both hot and cold. Brutally cold, at times, for that matter. And snow. Lots of snow (we’ve got some from yesterday’s storm right now that will be melting soon).
What we haven’t had is a monster storm. And I am praying that it stays that way.
That 17.75k sold out in 7 minutes!! Can you believe it?! I was sitting there by my computer with multiple alarms blaring leading up to registration time. LOL
MAN, you have so many skirts!!
And yeah, this weather has been crazy and I am actually wondering if we’re going to get smacked in March. That’s how Virginia likes to play. UGH.
I am so jealous of your weather. I hate the cold and cant wait for the 80 degrees you have!
I can send you some our snow. We’ve had a few storms this month, and now the ski resorts are almost at normal levels.
I usually wear GGU. My favorite seems to change each season.
Some of my skirts are also too big because they run differently in different materials. But I refuse to part with them.
I am enjoying the warmer weather but we certainly got some “real” snow this year too. More than last year I think. Luckily it melts very quickly! -M
I’ve been hearing about the weather in DC. Obviously I am jealous of it. I am ready for some warmer weather as I am tired of the snow and cold weather.
So when you register for the Marine Corps 17.75, you get automatic entry to the Marathon?
80’s… wow! We just had our first 80-degree day yesterday.
