Brrr! March came in like a lamb in Virginia with some warm weather, but I’m up in Michigan getting the kid for spring break and it’s definitely not warm here. I’m currently sitting in my hotel room waiting for classes to be over so we can head home, so I figured I’d join Deb and Coco for some coffee talk.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I flew for the third time since early 2020 yesterday. My first trip was to Cape Cod to put on the ZOOMA race. Yesterday’s trip went so much better! Everything was on time and all the details went super smooth. I’m really hoping that this means airlines are getting their feet back under them.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I made a tactical error choosing my hotel for last night. I usually come up for several days, so I tend to either do AirBNB or a hotel with a mini kitchen. I’m only here overnight, so I decided to stay at a cheaper option near campus. The hotel is nice, but it’s a renovated older hotel. You know what that means??? I had to walk OUTSIDE in 16* weather to get to my coffee this morning. Yeah, that wasn’t my favorite.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m excited about my first work race coming up next week. I recently left ZOOMA/Be Inspired Brands to work with a local company. I’m really enjoying the work and having races that don’t involve travel to put on is awesome. I’m not excited about the potential for cold rain, but at least I won’t be the one in the leprechaun outfit.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that the thing I’m most excited about right now is an upcoming trip with Beer Geek. I will get three new states and it’s our first trip without kids since Bermuda in February 2020. I’m not sure what I’m more excited about – knocking out Alabama, South Carolina, and Georgia or spending an evening enjoying the beer scene in Asheville, NC. Either way, it will be amazing to get away for a bit. Having more than half the country done won’t suck either – 9 more to go after this.
Time to shut down and drive back to Virginia. I’m hoping one of these days he can find someone to care for plants and bugs while he’s gone, but it looks like I’ll be back up in Michigan in May, July, August, September (OK, this is for me to run Ragnar…), November, and December this year. Oy!
Your new job with Pacers sounds great. I will have to chat with you in person soon to see about some MRTT race things. Speaking of in person-we should grab coffee sometime soon! It’s been a few years
So you’ve got a college kid up in Michigan? Why do you have to go up so much? Not that I would be complaining- I wish I could go see my son that often!
I’ll bet the beer scene in Asheville is pretty awesome- enjoy that trip!
I’m so glad you’re enjoying your new job. It sounds like you made the right decision!
Have fun with your boy this weekend! Are you taking him home?
Wow, that’s a lot of trips to MI! I hope you find better coffee next time. 😉
I’ve flown a few times but am still rusty on packing — even for a short trip it takes 1-2 hours to decide what to wear. Maybe that means I need to go shopping?
I’m so excited for your new job!
I haven’t been on an airplane since February 2020. I am thinking of going to Fargo, ND in May for a race but haven’t made any reservations, etc. Wow, 9 more states go to – that is GREAT!
Can I just say how jealous I am that you were in East Lansing? I really miss that city! It may be cold, but their winters were mild in comparison to those of Iowa. Sounds like your new job is going well 😉
Aww, that sounds like fun! Asheville was such an awesome place to visit — I hope you have a great time!
