It all started with Jones last week. Now he’s feeling great and full of energy. Shoo is snotty, but generally himself. Beer Geek is totally down for the count and I’m losing the battle. It’s a drippy, sneezy kind of cold, so my poor nose is rubbed raw. I’ve been going to bed super early and I’ve been using Zicam since the first hint of it (usually zicam keeps me from getting a cold at all), but so far I’m still on the “getting worse” side of things. Not sure how that’s going to affect my plan to run tomorrow…
Yesterday I ran a snotty 12 miles. I took a little children’s sudafed before the run so I wouldn’t have to constantly wipe my nose and that seemed to help. I managed to finish in 1:58:15, which is pretty good considering I raced on Sunday and have a cold.
I see a certain someone is back and insulting people again. That’s great ’cause it gives me the chance to say “heh, heh, I’m doing something cool and beer related.” I just bought tickets to Savor – which is quite possibly the best beer and food event I’ve ever been to. Now I just have to convince my mom to visit that weekend to babysit the kids.
Speaking of parents, a challenge has been issued. My father reminded me last night that I’ve never beaten him in a race. He also informed me that he’s already raced in three states (Louisiana, New Mexico, and Virgnia), so he’s ahead of me in the pursuit of a race in all 5o states (he’s saying he’s going to hit all 50 by age 70, so that gives him 9 years). All I can say is “bring it on. I’ll tie your state count when I run Delaware and you’d better be prepared to run fast in Florida.” (Why do I get the feeling I’ll be eating these words? LOL)
It’s cute that you and your dad are competitive that way.Hey! He’s got New Mexico and you don’t . How ’bout you come out here and tie up that score?!?
Ha! That is great that you and your dad have some friendly competition going.
That is awesome about you and your dad… feel better soon!
Oooh – a dad challenge! Good luck :)Ugh – 12 miles is a LOT for snottiness – great job getting that in!
I love that your dad plans to keep running when he’s 70 . . . I hope I can do that too. We’ve got the nasty strep bug at our house, so I feel your pain. Hope everybody gets well soon!
Re: Your challenge to your dad: Way to throw down against the AARPs, sister! Now tell them to Get Off Your Lawn! (I’m officially retiring that joke, I promise, after this comment.)Re: Savor: Lucky you! You could be like Jes and hoist one in my honor, to be nice. Jes did it with friggin rolling rock, so I feel I’m still owed. You know, when “snotty, … drippy, sneezy … rubbed raw, … [and] Zicam” tried out for the last slot in the Seven Dwarves, I was the only one who bet actual money on Sneezy’s getting the job. Everyone else though Zicam was a shoo-in because he had that cool name. But the odds wee long and that bet made me rich. So who’s sneezing now, huh? Get better, sister, and keep that flu contained to the greater DC area, please!
Feel better soon! Way to get those snotty 12 miles in.
Hope you, BG, and Shoo feel better soon. I’m just wiping my brow that you all didn’t infect me, hehe. Your contest with your dad reminds me of how I dream of beating my dad in arm wrestling– and yet, somehow, the day I do, it will be kinda heartbreaking, y’know? So I guess I’ll be rooting for your dad!
