On the schedule this morning was a 12 mile run. I was so not in the mood for it. With only 29 days until the marathon, apparently I’m just done right now. Not exactly a good time to be tired of running LOL.
It stormed a lot last night and was still raining a bit when I got up, but by the time I was actually ready to hit the road at 6:45am, it was just humid. Really humid. As in, can it be 100% humidity and not actually be raining? Whatever, I got going. The first five miles went really well as I ran a huge downhill and then ran up the first hill of the MCM. (I’ll run that baby one more time before the race, but it already doesn’t intimidate me like it did before. I think the bridge run I did the other day conquered that issue). At just over 5 miles, it started to pour. You know, the kind of rain where you can hardly see. Fun. Thankfully, that didn’t last very long, so the rest of the run was ok, except for the nasty wet shoes.
I finished the 12 miles in 2:02ish, so it was a really good run timewise. I did mile 11 in 9:50 and mile 12 in 9:28. The whole last mile my body and my mind were having a bit of a “discussion”. My body kept wanting to slow down and conserve energy. My mind knew I was almost done and wanted to go fast. The conversation went something like this:
Body: Hey, we’re going a pretty good pace here, we need to take it back a bit.
Mind: Dude, we only have a half mile left. Let’s rock it.
Body: Tired. I’m tired.
Mind: Pick it up man!
Body: Thirsty. I need a drink.
Mind: You’ll get a drink soon.
(With less than a quarter mile to go)
Mind: Alright, let’s pick up the pace.
Body: My toe hurts, my ankle hurts, I’m tiiirreeed.
Mind: Oh get over it, we’re almost done.
Body: But I’m tiiireeddd.
Mind: OK, I’ll be nice, turn left here and stay on the flat instead of going straight up the hill.
Body: Oh, thank you, ahh, almost done
(With just .1 miles left in the run, head up the hill)
Body: WAIT! You said we were going to do the easy way.
Mind: He He. (Think Bart Simpson here)
Yeah, I’m weird LOL.
Due to the rain, we aren’t going to the Demolition Derby today :o( so I need to go keep the boys from driving Beer Geek insane!
