I heart cold weather running!

November 18, 2011 by MCM Mama 24 Comments

It’s a chilly 39 degrees here right now.  Yesterday afternoon, winter arrived.

But I’m not complaining.  I just had an amazing 4 mile run where my time for every single mile started with a 9.  Woot!  I wasn’t even running hard, with the exception of the final uphill half mile (why do I keep doing that?).  Nothing hurt.  I was running by “feel” and taking it easy.  The only difference was that it was cold.

Every once in a while I reconfirm that I’m really a Wisconsin girl at heart LOL.

Weather and what I wore (so I can remember how much to wear next time.):

  • 39 degrees, sunny, light wind
  • Tek leggings with Tommie Copper calf sleeves (would have been ok with capris and the calf sleeves.)
  • Running bra, short sleeve tech tee, long sleeve Nike half zip
  • Running cap

For once, I was wearing exactly the right amount of clothing.

And for your viewing pleasure, a preview of my Mad Fox Brewing report:

You and I are so opposite on our weather likes! But I will say that running throughout winter makes winter a little less unbearable for me. Love the picture!

I'm still running in shorts. I refuse to succumb to the cold this year! Happy brewing — cheers!

I'm a Wisconsin girl and it was a bit hard to run in at first last night. It was 24 degrees when I left home and my face was numb almost immediately. It took about 2 miles before my feet, face and hands weren't numb and I even had my hands in gloves. I do like it though. I am not sure if I prefer it but I don't hate it ๐Ÿ™‚

Wouldn't a Wisconsin girl be in minimal attire until the temps dropped below 36? Just saying!Looks like you are cleaning the tank.

Whew… I hate being cold but running is a little different. If I'm gonna be all hot and sweaty anyway, I think it's better to have lower temps. Bring on the cold, I guess! : )

I have a tendency to always be cold, but running if the one time I embrace the lower temps! I hate running in the heat. I usually over dress at first and then end up shedding a few layers…

I don't mind the cold. I prefer the 40s to the 30s though! I usually run in pants if I am running a shorter run or one that's earlier in the morning. If it's later, I wear shorts and long sleeves.

Will we see you at the TurkeyTrot this year? Assuming we can get both these kids fed and bundled and out the door in time to get Dave to race start on Thanksgiving, we will all be there. We made a 7:30 plane in Nevada, so I am confident. I will be spending the morning at the playground (no rain this year please!) as I gave myself 10 more days of training and am doing the Hot Chocolate 5k on Dec 3 instead and letting Dave race this one. Oh for the days when we could race the same races…Maybe one day we will all 4 race together.

It's so satisfying when you FINALLY dress appropriately for the weather. I am under or over dressed more often than not as the seasons change. Nice run!

I miss my winter runs. It's way too hot here already and there's months of nasty runs ahead. I'm thinking I should change hemispheres every six months.

It took me a few years to adjust to winter weather in Ohio after moving from Cali but now I no longer dread the colder temps for running.

I'll run in whatever…usually :)We live in a very temperate climate, but I used to live in Philadelphia. Not super duper cold like Wisconsin, but it would snow and there would be ice storms and freezing rain. I learned to not complain :)There are no bad conditions only bad preparations ๐Ÿ™‚
