My weekend in reverse:
This afternoon we took the boys to see Madagascar 2. Jones really liked it, Shoo was indifferent, and Mama was entertained. Or maybe that’s the beer talking. We saw it at the Cinema and Drafthouse, so Mama and Beer Geek got to drink a couple of Dominion Baltic Porters. Yum!
Before we went, I did my first ever “official” tempo run. My pace: 9:15 (warmup), 8:25, 8:35, 8:45, 10:30. As I suspected I might, I definitely did the first tempo mile too fast. By the end of the third mile of fast running, I was totally ready to puke and I had to slow down to a 10:30 pace to keep going. I think next time I’ll try to aim for closer to 8:40 for tempos, at least for now.
Last night, Beer Geek and I went here. YUMMY food and good beer. They have an excellent wine list, but they had a stout and a porter on tap, so we couldn’t resist those. Sorry, Girl on Top, I didn’t wear stiletos. I did wear these jeans and a fitted turtle neck (I usually go for a bit of cleavage when we go out, but it was too frickin’ cold for that) and high heeled boots. I told Beer Geek he should have taken a before and after picture because I’d spent the day in running pants, a HUGE sweatshirt (I wore these all through college/grad school, did I really think they were attractive?), and fuzzy pink socks. Quite the contrast from the “hot mama” look I was rockin’ when we went out to dinner.
Yesterday was a rest day, so I just did abs (and today I did lower body), so I’m only three days from some new Thorlos. Good thing as I just noticed that Jones’ shoes are getting too small. Since the kid wears Asics Nimbus shoes ($$$, but he stopped complaining about his feet hurting when we walked to school), that gives me two reasons to go by my favorite running store.
Disclaimer: any typos I blame on Dominion Brewing. Glavey, if you stick around and comment some more, maybe I’ll dedicate a post to Beer Geek and how he got his nickname.
Sounds like a good weekend with a nice mix of family fun and training. 🙂
Ooooo nice tempo chica 🙂
Nice job on the tempo run — that’s a smokin pace for those 3 tempo miles!Glad you enjoyed both an afternoon at the movies and a night out with the hubs!
Great weekend indeed! Great job on the run too!
What a full weekend! Awesome tempo run.
Great job with your tempo run!!
LOVED Madagascar 2, & didn't even have beer while watching it (we need a movie theatre that sells beer – how awesome is that?).Great job on the run!
Know who else likes to “move it, move it”? Guys who shot a man in Reno just to watch him die and are, therefore, on the lam from the law.I was a little afraid, when I saw this post’s title, that you would turn out to be one of THEM. Not a killer – I’m okay with that. But a GUY.Much beer talk here, so, yeah, I’m sticking around, sister. Plus don’t worry: I rarely mock foax for their grammatical errors; I tend to home in on their character flaws, the stuff they were really sensitive about in Junior High and never really felt they got over, despite all subsequent “grown-up” attempts to front about them … and I poke at those barely-healed wounds with a (virtual) barbed metal pole.If it doesn’t kill you, it makes you stronger in the end. I’m guessing. Because thus far it’s killed everyone.
mmmm, the Cinema and Drafthouse! i always wanted to go there when i lived in the DC area but never did. maybe a place to visit on a return trip?also, nice tempo run! i HATE HATE HATE tempo runs. they are not fun at all. but you rocked yours! and don’t worry, i think the pukey feeling is normal. at the end of mine i usually have to stop and walk and am completely wheezing. fun fun.
Sounds like a fun weekend! Hooray for the drafthouse and Saturday night babysitters. I have the same issue with tempo runs, by the way. It’s really hard for me to make subtle changes in pace– it’s like I’m either running 8 minute miles or 10 minute miles. Oh, well. There’s something about feeling like you’re gonna puke that must be beneficial.
You had me at beer!
