I need coffee before my coffee

October 5, 2018 by MCM Mama 12 Comments

September was a whirlwind month for me. I’m still trying to recover – and October is not exactly laid back either. I’m pretty sure that I have coffee running in my veins at this point. So, it seems appropriate to jump in on Deb and Coco‘s coffee date.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I LOVE working for ZOOMA and the other project I took on. But going up to 30 hours a week of working has been quite a shock to my system. Something had to give and it feels like the blog has taken the brunt of that. I hope to get back to commenting and responding once Amelia Island is done.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m nervous about the Marine Corps Marathon. I’ve had training issues in the past, but I’ve always had a good half marathon base. I really feel like I’ve lost that at this point. I have a plan, but it’s somewhat unorthodox and hinges a lot on getting back to 5-6 days per week of running. I’m *almost* there, but I’m also trying not to hurt myself. I feel like I’m walking a tightrope right now between trying to get ready for the race but not come back too fast.

If we were having coffee,  I’d tell you that I missed my run the other day because I had to rescue the roaches from an ant invasion. Yes, really. Also, I bet you didn’t know you could buy roaches from Amazon. Boys should come with warning labels…

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that in addition to everything else, fall brings both boys’ birthdays. One of them turns 17 this year. I’m pretty sure I’m not a day over 24, so how can that be? I certainly don’t feel like I’m approaching a big round number. And I certainly should not be having my 30th high school reunion this year.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m over the summer weather. I’m ready for fall. I want to make soups in my crockpot and wear sweatshirts and leggings when I’m working. And I specifically want to have cool weather for MCM. Seriously, I want to have throw aways that I don’t throw away for a few miles. Just sayin.

I’m linking up with Deb and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee date and with Running on Happy for Friday Five. Have a great weekend!

I only work 28 hours/week but it’s been crazy busy lately! I’m feeling really overwhelmed right now. I can’t imagine doing this full time…

Good luck on getting ready for MCM. You’ll be fine!

Hoping for cool weather for MCM too. You have got to be at a better place in your training than me! I am hoping to squeak in under the 7-hour mark, and have been training with a lot of walking to try to not aggravate the hip!

As the mom of 3 (grown) boys, I certainly understand the roach/ant thing! 🙂

I hear ya on the yearning for more hours. My hours got bumped up to 30-32/week this summer, and it’s been a tough adjustment. I’ve been able to stay on schedule with blogging (most weeks), but my house has all kinds of clutter that has been neglected. UGH.

OMG on the roaches! Thankfully my son was more of a sporty kid than a scientist! LOL that just would not fly over here. 🙂 I am feeling woefully undertrained right now as well for the fall races coming up on my schedule. I’ve been babying my calf but now I’m way behind. Oh the struggles of an aging runner. Thanks for linking up today. We need a real coffee date sometime soon

I’m with you on fall. Although we’re still enjoying back & forth temps but this morning had a dewpoint of 37!!!!! Of course I am not running today. But tomorrow looks even cooler and it’s my long run which will feel a whole lot better after Sunday’s sweatfest.

It’s definitely hard to train and make sure you don’t train too hard — I feel like I’m often walking that tightrope.

I’m not sure how I’d handle going back to work at this point . . .

There is no way you are having a 30th class reunion. You must have miscalculated!?

I saw the instagram post about the roaches and I had a little mini stress attack. After growing up in NYC in the 80’s and living through a lot of roach issues I have roach issues. Now I live in Miami where roaches are huge and FLY … okay we call them palmetto bugs but they are giant flying roaches. Anyway … no geckos for my kids because no way could I handle that. You are a GREAT mom to do that for your boys.

Sounds like you have some great things coming up with 2 birthdays and that marathon, which I am sure you will do fine in.

I’m conflicted… I am still loving the heat and humidity, but when I get the whiff of fall air, I get excited for fall too! PA can be weird, so we will have a back and forth of fall/summer weather for another few weeks.

I hope it’s cool for MCM. Could be another brutal ATM tomorrow.

hahaha, love that “hey girl” meme! 😛 I write everything down too, or I wouldn’t be half as productive as I am!

Much as I love and adore summer, I’m a fan of leggings and boots and crockpot/soup/chili weather too! 😛
