Yesterday, after Jones’ soccer game (where he totally rocked!), we headed over to our usual Oktoberfest/beer festival. It quickly became apparent it was going to be packed (because the weather was awesome) and that most of the attendees were considerably younger than us old farts. Despite having seen some info on “kid activities”, we didn’t actually see any of those. So, what does an old couple with two kids in tow do? Go to a brewpub for lunch, of course. We had a great lunch, complete with a few beers and then wandered through the fest, rather than actually participating. We took the boys to get ice cream and then made our annual stop at the local toy store that is in the same location as the fest. It’s become a bit of a tradition to buy the boys’ one of their birthday presents from that store during the Oktoberfest. Once again, the store did not let us down and we bought an awesome Darda racetrack with NASCAR cars. The boys and I like the track so much that I’ll be suggesting add on pieces to the grandparents when they ask for gift ideas.
Sadly, when we got home, Beer Geek and I were so wiped out, that he took a nap and I lounged with a book while the kids played. Apparently, gone are the days when we could drink at lunch and continue into the afternoon LOL. We’ll try again next year, but we’ll make alternative plans for the boys.
Today was another soccer day, where once again Jones played an awesome game. I’m not sure what happened, but suddenly, my timid, back of the pack kid is stealing the ball and making goals. Wow!
On the running front, the little bit of soreness from the 20 miler is gone. I thought about running today, but we have a sitter this afternoon so that Beer Geek and I can go out. I can still get in my planned runs for the week, so no worries. Now that I’m tapering, I have a feeling I’ll be chatting about everything except running LOL.
ROFLMAO! Add me to that list because I’M THE SAME WAY! HAHAA
I am the same way, one beer in the afternoon and I am done for the day. Sounds like an awesome day.
You’re not old, just out of practice! Next time I’m in DC and I have more time, we’ll drink all day and you’ll be renewed!
