I had a mom comment recently at school drop off that I was one of those moms who is always in exercise clothes. At first I felt a bit defensive, but then I realized that it just says something about my priorities.
I’m “that mom” who drops off her kids, dressed to go running. I’m also “that mom” who shows up fresh out of the shower or, better yet, still dripping sweat from a run. I’m “that mom” whose hair is always up in a ponytail. I’m “that mom” who never seems to have makeup on, or it’s on, but half sweated off. I’m “that mom” who’s much more concerned about her physical fitness than her physical appearance.
So, as long as being “that mom” allows me to
- get a workout in every day
- throw in the occasional “extra” mile
- take a yoga class at the spur of the moment
- get my paid job done
- get all my “chores” done
- sleep an extra hour (oops, now you know my real reason)
I’m gonna be “that mom” and I’m going to be proud of it.
Because this

is infinitely better than this

99% of the time.
(And I love the shock factor when I do actually clean up LOL)
I could go on and on about being that mom as even when Ive not worked out and just been up working all morning IM IN THOSE CLOTHES 🙂
Ive learned the slow way how many other parents assume I am just working out all day (who knew? and then it dawned on me how would they know it’s my WORK CLOTHES :)) and I dont care.
whohoooooo I’ve been ‘that mom’ forever!
for the last 23 yrs…..
I live in workout/yoga clothes
and I never wear makeup…
so here’s to all the “that mom” amongst us 🙂
I am so going to be that mom. Well, I actually already might be. I dropped off my son at daycare and arrived at work without brushing my hair or putting on make up. Oops.
i am SO gonna be that mom some day 🙂
Shoot! I’d be all about, “Heck yeah I’m that mom!” Claim it and love it! Happy Friday!!
Yep, I am absolutely that mom too… we have a play group 1.5 miles away on Fridays, so I usually jog over, and the one time we met at someone’s home and I dressed in normal clothes, several people commented that they had only ever known me in running clothes. 🙂
I am THAT MOM too! 🙂 Own it, girl!
Proud to say I am “that mom” too!! Keep it up ladies!!
I even sleep in workout clothes. I do have a non-running related job but after getting plantar fasciitis last fall, I’ve been wearing nothing but running shoes so my dress has become even more and more casual. I might as well wear my running clothes to work!
I love being “that” mom!
oh I am that mom too.
if I show up in “normal” clothes…jeans and t-shirt for me, they ask if I am all right
I dont get negatives comments though more positive and encouraging ones.
Yes! You should feel proud that you are that mom! I am also always in workout clothes and proud of it.
one time at a town function that was in the evening a mom screamed at me, “wow, i have NEVER seen you in anything but workout clothes” and on the rare day i do shower after a workout out on time for pick up, i usually get a ton of compliments that my hair looks good…..simply b/c it is not in a ponytail.
So you’re ‘that Mom’, LOL…………
Love that you embrace it – I do…loe being That Mom! 🙂
SERIOUSLY. I hope she wasn’t being all judgy when she commented. If she was, then one can only assume she was feeling guilty about not dragging her slack butt out for some exercise!
I’d rather be that mom than any other type.
I so want to be that mom! I’m getting there, lil man starts preschool in August! THat’s the best mom to be ! Plus you’re healthy!!
I guess I’m ‘that mom too’ and I think it’s a good thing. 🙂
Was she in pajamas? Because I sure don’t want to be THAT mom!
It’s better to be “that” mom, than the one with the full on makeup and high heels who cares more about her appearance than her health, or being real. I dressed up once for an office Christmas party and the guys were all amazed that I had hair! And eyes! I never wear make up and my hair is almost always in a ponytail!
I am SO “that mom” too! And I love it. 😉
“those” moms are cooler by far!!
They make clothes that aren’t workout clothes? Well shoot!
I’m that Mom too… and proud of it. If it inspires my kids to be fit too, so much the better. Even if it doesn’t it makes me a better parent – so bite me, Stepford Moms!
I’m that mom who accidentally has to get out of the car in pajamas and no bra. Workout clothes mom is 100 steps above that.
I know what you mean about shock factor – when no one recognises you without a red face, sweat and workout clothes. That happens every squad Christmas party.
Nothing wrong with that at all. 🙂
It is all about priorities and I too am that mom. I would much rather be that mom who is in exercise clothes to actually workout then the mom known for always stopping by McDs on the way to pick up kids 🙂
I am proud to be that mom!!! I even love that my kids tell their teachers and other parents at school that, “My mom runs half marathons and is gonna run a marathon soon.” Rock on lady!!! Be proud to be that mom! You rock!
I think I was *that* mom before I was even a mom! LOL
When I see other moms dressed in their workout stuff, I always smile and think “Way to go!”
Love this! I would have taken that comment as a compliment 🙂 Being “that mom” makes me a better mom!
I want to be that mom. 🙂
Haha yeaaa I’m definitely “that girl” too. Plus workout clothes are in general more comfortable and awesome than regular clothes.
