I haven’t joined Deb and Coco for coffee in a VERY long time. I really lost the desire to write on my blog when I stopped racing and I have struggled to come back. But I need to get my rear in gear for an upcoming half marathon and an Ultra Ragnar, so maybe I can motivate myself to run by writing more often again. We’ll see…
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you we just got back from Shoo’s graduation present trip. We went to Costa Rica for 11 days and it was AMAZING. We hiked and ziplined and swam and saw tons of bugs and animals. It was the first time since the pandemic that we’ve left the country and now it’s left me desperate for more. As a bonus, we managed to get our Global Entry interviews as we came back through Miami, so international travel returns will be easier from here on out.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I really haven’t run much in about a year. I know. I had some health issues that are now resolved, but I seem to have lost my love of the run. We were supposed to run a half marathon in May, but Beer Geek came home from work travel with Covid and was not up for it. Next up is a half in August. Since I haven’t run more than 7 miles in the last year, this could be interesting…
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m “underemployed” this summer. One of my jobs is ending – the owner is closing the company. It’s a bit bittersweet as I’ve worked for him for 12 years. My other job is having a major reorg, so things are quiet right now as we figure out what my role will be. I’ve decided to embrace the free time and worry about it when life settles down a bit in the fall.
How are you doing? Hope everyone’s summer is going well!
Enjoy your downtown.
I’m not a fan if Ragnars but that location is beautiful.
I’m thinking that once you start racing , your running mojo will come back.
I saw your pics on FB-your trip looked really great. I am in the same boat as you with trying to build back. Maybe I can convince you to come back out with our group? I’ve always wanted to do that Ragnar
I do need to start running with a group again, but I’m SOOO slow. Maybe in the fall when everyone is back at school.
I understand your ambivalence about returning to running. While I still love to run, my mojo for racing has pretty much gone away. I’m doing a trail race this weekend, but what I’d rather be doing is just lacing up and hitting the trails. That will be my plan going forward! Good luck as you return to running!
Your vacation looked amazing! I loved that you didn’t love the beach. 😉
Summertime is a rough time to make a running comeback — or maybe it’s a good time to keep your pace and distance low.
Now I want to know which company you work for is shutting down ….
Good to see you on the Coffe Talk link up! Your trip sounds wonderful! I often feel the same way about running. I like to trail run ( and walk) as much as I can but it is definitely time consuming. I haven’t run an actual race since 2020, unless you count the Castaway Cay 5K I did while on the Disney Cruise! Our blog has morphed more into traveling than running these days but Lacey does have a race recap coming up! ( Are those still relevant?..lol)
The zip-lining looks fun! I hope all goes well as you ease back into a running routine. Maybe after you get a few more runs in, and get your base back up to par, the mojo will resurface (?).
I know what you can do with your extra time- start running again! Ha ha… maybe you’ll enjoy it again when you get back into it. I’m looking at your reply to Deborah’s comment, and I can relate- for various reasons I’m running SO much slower than I used to, and it’s not fun. But I’d still rather run slowly than not at all. Good luck with everything- you’ll have to tell us how those races go!
I love Ragnar races. I hope it brings back your motivation, if that’s what you want. <3
Welcome backkkk! I took a longlonglong break from blogging but am hoping to be more consistent with blogging again as well!
Costa Rica sounds like so much fun! I’d love to go explore someday. :] I need to get my Global Entry!
