I can’t believe it’s been a year since I last had coffee wth everyone. I don’t post on the weekends these days and I never seem to remember to post the Friday beforehand. I like combining Friday Five and Coffee, I’m just a slacker apparently. But I’ve been drinking so much coffee to stay warm that it seems appropriate to meet up with friends for coffee. Anyways, I’m joining up with my friends Deborah and Coco for a virtual coffee date (they are both local to me – I should meet up for a real coffee date…) I’m also linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday Five 2.0.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m really struggling with my goal of rolling with the punches. I want everything on the calendar YESTERDAY! I really only have two races on the calendar currently: Frederick Running Festival in May and MCM. I do hope to run the 17.75 to get into MCM, but I know there are plenty of ways into the marathon.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that it’s crazy cold here right now. It’s nearly as cold as Wisconsin was when I was there. I’m so.over.it. Completely.over.it. Wanna know how cold it is? I had to bring my weights into the house from our 3 seasons room (which most years I use all year long) because the metal ones burn my hands. I have to run the heat out there for at least a half hour if I want to run on the treadmill – I have to get the heat up to at least 40*. That’s right, a fully insulated room is currently below freezing.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I used to read a lot of “thriller” books. I’ve read most of Stephen Kings books, as well as those by Dean Koontz. However, I stopped reading that genre a while back and now tend to read either non-fiction or “fluff” when I read an actual book. Somehow a Rachel Caine book (affiliate link) ended up on my Kindle Unlimited list (affiliate link) and I started reading it this past week when I was running on the treadmill. Now, of course, I can’t put it down and have a feeling I’ll be reading every chance I get until I finish the trilogy. (That and being scared of noises in the dark may be why I quit reading that type of book…)
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’ve barely been running lately. So far this week, I’ve run just over 10 miles. I’ve been loving the weight workouts from Faster Way to Fat Loss (affiliate link) because, hello, I’m getting some guns! Unfortunately, 4 of the workouts each week do not include running, except as a warm up or cool down. With my treadmill so cold, I’ve been riding my exercise bike in the living room. (Yes, I dragged both it and the weights into the house. My workout room looks bare.) If I want to keep my 100 miles a month streak alive, I’m going to need to get moving. Literally.
Finally, if we were having coffee, I’d tell you that we figured out our Tuesdays on the Run topics for the next few weeks.
Upcoming topics:
- Jan 9 – Running guilty pleasure
- Jan 16 – Predictions for 2018
- Jan 23 – Show me your shoes
- Jan 30 – Favorite hometown race
- Feb 6 – What’s your fuel of choice?
- Feb 13 – Running Valentine – what you love about running the most
- Feb 21 – least favorite part of running
Happy Friday! What would you share with me if we were having coffee???
[Tweet “Let’s chat! Join me in the Ultimate Coffee Date today. “]
It’s so cold here too! We had a 2 hour delay due to the negative temps. That book looks really good, I’m going to see if the library has it.
My kids had a snow day on Thursday for *maybe* two inches of snow. And then a 2 hour delay on Friday for the low temps.
Isn’t this cold “spell” a pain in the buttocks? I cannot believe how long it’s lasted (we’re going on three solid weeks in Iowa)…and it’s COLD everywhere! Since ending my Streak on Monday, my outdoor mojo has totally tanked. I”m glad it’s my off-season LOL
I don’t mind not running inside, but man, it sucks when my workout room is 32 degrees!
So glad that you are back at the coffee dates! I thought you were the Wisconsin girl who loved the cold?! It has been a little crazy out there huh? I am still trying to adapt to he FWTFL workouts and keep up my running as well. We should meet up for a workout together so you can give me some tips
I have to start picking up the running again. It’s just tough to balance it all.
It has been cold here too in Chicago. But we are expecting some “warmer” weather next week. Right now I am reading books by John Grisham. I started reading his book a few years ago and then stopped. Recently I made a list of all of his books (in the order they were published) and have been busy reading them.
I’ve read a lot of his books as well. Our weather is supposed to be normal winter this coming week.
I would share that I’m always cold, so the metal on my weights at home always make my hands cold. Brrr.
It’s usually not a problem for me, but the temp in my workout room was 32 degrees!
Thanks for hosting the TOTR again this year!
I am so glad these we had an unseasonably warm year here on the east coast because now maybe we can deal better with these below freezing temps for a few weeks (if that’s all it is…lol). I looked at my weather app the other day and can you believe it was actually warmer in Alaska than it was here???
Yeah, various places that should be colder were warmer than here. That’s just messed up LOL.
I think because they predicted a “mild winter” I am especially intolerant of this extreme cold. I’d toyed with a spring marathon but now I think fall may be more realistic.
If it weren’t for wanting my 5th MCM, I probably wouldn’t run a marathon at all this year.
Years ago, I loved reading Stephen King and then later Dean Koontz. Thanks for the heads up on Rachel Caine.
If you have kindle unlimited, her books are free to read.
It’s so cold here too – I have yet to run outside this month, and given the forecast, it could be awhile before I do!
I haven’t run outside this month either – hoping for nice run on Tuesday.
I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate and enjoy your blog!
Thank you!
If you like thriller books, have you tried the Monkeewrench series? My mom and I both love that series, and it’s so hard to put the book down. I normally start a book on Saturday so I can read through the weekend without interruptions.
Ooh, I’ll have to check that one out. Never heard of it.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you how freaked out I was during yesterday’s snow/freezing rain and hurricane wind storm. Seriously, I hardly slept! So glad it’s over. I’ll take COLD temps over that storm again.
Also, I’m going to try and link up with the “Tuesday’s on the Run”!
Yeah, the winds scare me most when it’s a heavy wet snow or freezing rain. Losing power when it’s cold is one of my big fears.
I NEVER run on the treadmill. It is so cold that I have. I may even run on the indoor track tomorrow at a friend’s gym.
I don’t love the treadmill, but it’s come in handy at different points of my life. 6 miles is about where my limit is though.
It’s finally warming back up here in Texas, but we had some really cold (for Texas) temps earlier this week. Stay warm!
Glad it’s warming back up for you. Seems like you shouldn’t have to deal with cold if you have to deal with the heat of TX.
Those are great topics for TOTR. I’ll start linking up again soon.
Girl, this cold is SUCKING the life out of me. Next week it will be in the 20s and I can’t believe that’s what I’m excited about. I’ve been cycling, too. But because I’m injured not because of the cold. I miss running.
We are supposed to go above freezing this week. I can’t wait!
It’s cold we’re I life so I escaped to Florida. I hate the cold! I need to find a good book to read. It’s been to long
Good luck getting into MCM. I ran the 17.75K last year just to get the golden ticket. I literally flew in from Chicago on Friday, ran the race on Saturday, and then flew home. Well worth it! My son couldn’t do the 17.75K but got a spot in the MCM by lottery, so we were able to run it together. I love those Tuesdays on the Run topics!
I’m local, so running 17.75 is easy if I can get in. But there are so many ways to get into MCM that I know I’ll get in even if I don’t run 17.75. And this is my 5th year, so next year I’ll be in the Runner’s Club.
I love coffee dates (and coffee!). If we were having coffee I’d tell you that the twins are coming in 3 months and I’M NOT READY!
You will do fine. I’m sure you’ll get all the necessities done and the rest will fall into place.
If we were having coffee I would tell you I do not envy you guys AT ALL with your super cold weather. Thanks very much but no no no no no. I hope it warms up soon!!
I would also ask you, how do you read on the kindle while you are on the treadmill? I’m just wondering because I have coordination issues and I could see myself flying off the back of the ‘mill trying to read anything for longer than 2 seconds!
I make the print pretty big and it’s not that hard to read for me. But I can’t do it if I’m running fast – I use it mostly for longer slower runs or recovery runs. If I’m running much faster than a 10 minute pace, I can’t do it.
So when I went to CrossFit this week, the weights were so cold they made my hands hurt! Yep, I’m over this winter!
It was warmer today, but I needed to use a weight I hadn’t brought into the living room and it was so cold! We are supposed to be back to above freezing this coming week.
I’m definitely not liking how cold it’s gotten. :[ I want summer or fall to come back!! You make me wish I had a home gym! *-*
I’m lucky to have the space – it used to be the kids’ playroom, but now that they are older, all their toys are smaller and more expensive LOL.
Its so hard to stay motivated to work out when its this cold outside. I think that a lot of us are struggling right now. The weathermen say that its supposed to warm up this coming week. I certainly hope that they’re right!
I’m looking forward to the warmup. The cold did motivate me to figure out my fitness room though.
Goodness, I don’t envy that cold in any way! This Texas girl struggles with temps in the 40s!! Stay warm up there!
Last week was rough. This week is supposed to be “normal” cold. I can’t wait.
Cannot believe how cold it has been lately I have been freezing and my Florida freezing is by no means as cold as other places, but to us FLoridians, it is cold. I am so over it. Id also tell you I just want to get throught the Napes half and PR so I can rest for a month, from running that is.
It’s all relative. I used to be able to handle the cold, but I’ve lived in VA for too long now LOL.
It’s been crazy cold in Maine too! We got over a foot of snow on Thursday!! I need to check out that book, sounds great 🙂
I couldn’t live there. I’m not sure I can live in Wisconsin anymore LOL.
GREETINGS FROM THE WIMPY TEXAN.
Im also cheap 🙂 which made for me and the child wearing our COATS INSIDE ALL LAST WEEK.
Thank goodness for warmer temps coming our way soon.
xoxo
I haven’t been running much either! Good job for keeping up some motivation with the COLD weather.
