I’m really hoping that my obsessiveness about sticking to the training program in the early days is going to pay off. The last week and a half have just completely messed with my training. I’m not running frequently and when I do manage to run, I’m not running very far. After my 8 miler on Tuesday, I tried for a 5 mile run on Wednesday. I did 3 miles. Three very slow, awful miles. My ankle hurt horribly the whole run. I could barely maintain a 10 minute pace.
I took today off because my ankle was still a bit sore. I won’t have time to run tomorrow as Shoo no longer naps and it’s raining here, so I can’t take him in the running stroller. If the cold, windy rain continues, I’ll be doing my 12 miles on the treadmill on Saturday, but I’m planning to at least try to run outside. The only good thing about the rain is Jones’ soccer game will be canceled, so I won’t be pushing myself to run fast and make the game.
Next week is my last 20 mile run and then I start to taper. Unfortunately, I scheduled it for Friday morning and Jones’ teacher scheduled our parent-teacher conference at 10:15am. If I can’t change it, I’ll be hitting the treadmill around 5 am and then going outside as soon as it’s light out.
I love October. It’s beautiful here. It’s my favorite month of the year. It’s also soccer season, festival season, apple picking season, Halloween, and both boys’ birthdays. What the heck was I thinking adding a marathon to my already crazy fall?
Off to figure out how to make a “fish tank” cake for Jones’ party in two weeks…
