Kicking off the fall race season

September 18, 2017 by MCM Mama 10 Comments

I love fall. It’s my favorite time of year. The mornings and evenings are cool, it’s still light out for lots of hours, and the race scene picks up again (as does my pace.)

Every fall I think “I don’t have many races, just Marine Corps Marathon”, so I sign up for a race and then I remember that “oh, yeah, I signed up for Ragnar and a local half marathon and the Clarendon Day Double and…” Suddenly I realize my race card is full.

So here’s what I have going on…

September 17 – Navy Air Force Half Marathon (already done!)

September 22-23 – Ragnar DC. I’m runner 4 for Mad Fox 12 Pack. Give me a shout out if you see me.

September 24 – Clarendon Day Double. 5K, run back up the hill, and then a 10K.

October 1 – Georgetown Half Marathon. I really don’t like doing long runs, so I run races instead LOL.

October 2-7 – Ragnar Summit Challenge. Join the challenge and run a goal amount of elevation each day.

October 7 – ZOOMA Cape Cod. Unfortunately, life requires that I do this one virtually. Use code Erika2017 for 10% off this race and ZOOMA Florida.

October 22 – Marine Corps Marathon. I’m actually feeling trained this year. If that doesn’t result in some sort of amazing race, I’m going back to half assing my training. This whole 200 mile month thing is for the birds.

November 4 – Growler Relay. Yes, running and beer and awesome Ragnar Ambassador friends. Perfect.

November 11 – Outer Banks Half Marathon. (This is still a maybe, but it keeps coming up as an option.)

December 10 – Jingle All the Way 10K. Last December, a local race company offered such an amazing deal on their races if you bought a bunch at once. I couldn’t resist and have done more local races this year than I have since I started on my 50 states half marathon quest.

There’s rumor of a 50K in December or February, but I haven’t quite jumped off that ledge yet. (Tiptoed up to it, yes, but no jump yet…)

I don’t even know how my schedule gets so full LOL.

How’s your fall looking? Got any races planned near DC?

You have a buys few months ahead of you! It can definitely be nice to run a race instead of doing a regular long run. I don’t have any races planned at this point but Im hoping to squeeze in a 5k before it starts getting too cold!

Wow! You’re a running machine. I hope you have fabulous races!

I’ve got a 5k Sunday, a half the following week . . . then several shorter races I’d like to do but depends on family stuff.

I may to a DC race next fall. I want to do the MCM 10k, and then I found out my great-great-grandfather was in the marines. Perfect excuse, right?

I deliberately tried to keep my schedule light this fall because I don’t know how I’ll feel when I’m done with the marathon. But I do the same thing as far as races go…I don’t like to train but I love to race so I’ll use a half as a long run.
