Today was an absolutely gorgeous day! Beautiful! When Shoo and I got to Jones’ school to pick him up, all of the kids were a little stir crazy. It was like the weather made them think it was nearly spring and that school was about to be out. Even with the quarter mile walk back to our car, Jones and Shoo were still full of energy. Way too much energy.
So, I made the executive decision to keep them outside when we got home. Our street dead ends about a block away from our house, so we got Jones’ bike and Shoo’s trike and headed down the block. Jones has been trying to learn to ride without training wheels for a while now, but has been largely unsuccessful.
Today, I took off the training wheels and ran behind him, holding the seat to help balance him. Within 20 minutes, he had it!!! We then spent the next hour riding and running up and down that same block, while he got progressively more stable (Shoo spent that time alternating between acting as an obstacle course for Jones and playing demolition derby with his trike, yikes!) By the time we came in at dark, Jones could ride the entire block, turn without falling off or stopping and ride back! HUGE progress! He can even sometimes get himself started.
I didn’t have Garmin on :o), but I feel like I’ve run a few miles, so I’m going to call it a workout. And really, part of the reason I run is so that I can have the energy to do something like that for an afternoon with my kids.
Congrats to Jones for mastering 2 wheels!
