After dropping both boys at their respective schools and dropping a few dollars at Tarjay (I found two bathing suits! 2!), I headed out for a run. The weather today was beautiful – sunny and about 50 degrees. I wanted to do at least 8 miles, but was hoping to be closer to 13. I set a goal pace of 9:30 minutes per mile and headed out.
I ran over to the park where I ran the 12K race a while back and followed the trail for a bit. I don’t usually run on the trails as many are fairly secluded and there have been some crimes in previous years. The one I ran on today was perfect though. It ran near enough neighborhoods and parks that I felt safe, yet kept me from having to deal with traffic lights and auto exhaust. Thankfully, it also went right past a park with bathroom facilities.
I ended up doing 10 miles in 1:34:52. Thanks to a bathroom stop (where I did actually stop Garmin), a funeral procession that involved a whole lot of Harleys, and a random phone call, I ran out of time. Tapering finally makes sense to me. I could not have run much faster than I did today. My legs were just tired. I ran for speed on Saturday, an easy run on Sunday, and did a serious cross training workout yesterday (squats and step while holding Shoo). This run felt much harder than my faster and hillier half marathon race a few weeks ago.
I’ll do a few more short runs before we head out, but I’m mostly going to be spending the next few days packing. I’m not quite in panic mode yet, but I’m getting there. ;o)
Today’s stats:
Running – 10 miles in 1:34:52
Walking – 1.5 miles
Strength – abs
yay for finding 2 bathing suits! Awesome, and the run sounds great too! It’s always fun to run somewhere a bit different once in a while; smart decision going to a safer path too!
Tow bathing suits?!? Excellent!!
Target to the rescue! Good thing to see that your body responds to tapering, or maybe the lack thereof.
I always buying waaayyy to much stuff at Target. Their bathing suits never do me any favors though – glad you were able to find two!
You found 2 suits at Target? Dang I gotta get my butt over there again. I looked for the kids suits yesterday and came up empty handed (surprisingly)
That’s quite the Tarjay score. I love their suits.
Great run! I just ordered a swimsuit from Athleta . . . crossing my fingers that it looks okay! I hate swimsuit shopping!
Great job on the 10 miler! Enjoy those 50 degree days — they are always so fleeting this time of year. And when you come visit here, you’ll be greeted by 80+ humidity. Because it’s on its way to summer here now.
Ooh, I envy your 10 miles, esp. on that trail. Back when I lived on Columbia Pike there were several “incidents” that def. freaked me out a little about running on the trails– a shame, because they’re one of the coolest parts about living in that area. Anyway, sounds like you’re strong even on tired legs, which is so important– very cool!
That sounds like a great run, even though it was tough. 10 miles in 94 minutes is rockin! Have a good trip.
Know what helps with Panic?Wait for it ………Beer.
