Before I get to the Tuesdays on the Run topic of Memorial Races, I need to share that I’ve lost my muse. I haven’t run much at all in the last two weeks and I’m starting to lose my mind and I’m definitely losing my ability to write. The worst part is that the pain is in multiple places in my foot/ankle and I never know what part is going to hurt the most. Thankfully it does not seem to be aggravated by the exercise bike or the rowing machine, so I will be doing my best to get some endorphins tomorrow. Endorphins = people in my house are allowed to live plus maybe I’ll actually be able to think of something to talk about. /whine
Memorial Weekend Races around DC
Looking for a race ON Memorial Day? Check out the RINGING IN HOPE: A SALUTE TO OUR TROOPS race. Not only is this race on the holiday, but it is also a charity event for Boulder Crest Retreat in Loudoun County, which is a privately funded non-profit wellness center for veterans and their families healing from combat-related stress. Use Code SALUTE18 for $5 off.
Looking for a longer race? There are two half marathon options this coming weekend. The Spring Georgetown Race is organized by the same company did the Autumn Georgetown race in the fall. The races are small, but well organized and have decent swag.
The other option is the Alexandria Running Festival. I’ve run this in the past as well. It was crazy hot the weekend I ran it, but it seemed pretty well organized (and I can’t blame them for the weather LOL). Both of these races also have 5Ks.
Looking for cheap and low key? The Montgomery County Road Runner club is offering the Memorial 4 Miler. This race is on Memorial Day and is free for MCRR members and only $10 for non-members. In line with the cheap and low key, there’s not much in the way of swag.
Do you have race plans this weekend? I have none, but that’s mostly because I have no running plans right now. I’m too busy having a pity party.

So sorry that you are in a running/writing funk! Sometimes we all need a break. Maybe this is your body’s way of telling you that now is the time. Hope you get your mojo back soon!
I’ll join you in that pity party–you did read my post on Sunday, so you know of what I speak. Waaaaaa!
We have graduation this weekend and prom, so no racing for me. If I were running, that is… going to test the legs later this week.
Feel better!
Did not realize you were injured! Sending speedy vibes your way. The Loudon race is a good one I’ve done it a few times. I decided to jump into a tri race on Saturday at the last minute. thanks for the linkup
Sorry about the pity party !! We all get in running and blogging and life funks- i was in one last night.
What am i doing for memorial day? Well I’ll either be in labor or with a brand new baby!!!!
I have not been feeling my training lately either. Here’s hoping we rediscover the joy of running! I’m in taper mode for the next two weeks but do need to get some shorter runs in.
Oh no! I hope your ankle settles down and the family gets to live another day. ;p
Injuries suck. And unpredictable injuries — the worst!
No, I’m not racing this weekend, but I am racing next weekend — last 5k until the fall, most likely, and I don’t have high expectations when it comes to finish time but it’ll be fun.
Oh man, I’m so sorry that you’re injured! That stinks!!! 🙁 I hope you mend quickly!!
Those sound like fun races. I’m surprised I didn’t know anything about them when we lived up that way. Although, that was quite a few years ago so….
My weekend plans definitely involve running but no races, just training, and Murph (CrossFit workout) on Monday.
Stinks you lost your muse. Maybe a break from running and writing will help. Sometimes, we just need to do something else and let it come back to us. Don’t stress out, Erika, I bet you will be feeling better and more inspired soon. 🙂
I’ve never noticed any Memorial day races in my area and I wish there were. Now 4th of July races are plentiful (of course when it’s hot as you know what…)
I am running the Soldier Field 10 Mile on Saturday. I’ve run in the past and have enjoyed it. The race is well organized and always has lots of runners participate in it.
Ouch!! I hope your ankle feels better soon! I’d love to be in the DC area over a holiday weekend, I bet there’s a lot of activity…and the races you mentioned all sound fun. #someday 😉
So sorry that you are injured and I hope that you feel better soon!
I’m sorry that you are injured! I hope you feel better soon!
I love that there are so many around DC on Memorial Day weekend! If I lived closer, I would totally join in one!
