Or maybe I should title it “how few miles can I run and still finish a marathon.”
Today’s topic for Tuesdays on the Run is “Fall Races”. Tell us what your running or what your favorite races are. Who knows, I might show up at one…
My schedule is really empty for me. So empty that I’m kind of getting hives about it while simultaneously thinking I should get rid of my Marine Corps Marathon bib. Yes, I have issues. Not racing means I actually need to run some decent length training runs. I’m not very good at that.
I know this is shocking, but I only have 3 races this fall. What????
Ragnar DC

I’m looking forward to this even though I wasn’t originally planning to run. I’m running with Mad Fox Brewing’s team “Mad Fox 12 Pack”. My van is an interesting mix of people I barely know and two friends I’ve known for more than 10 years (one I went to college with!) It’s also my first co-ed team, which means it’s going to be a very different experience from my last two Ragnars. I still plan to have a really fun time!
Marine Corps Marathon
Yes, it is still currently on the schedule. And I’ve even found a plan to use – Hal Higdon’s Senior Marathon plan. It’s like the anti-Hansons plan with only 3 runs a week and a 14, 16, and 20 (which I’ll probably make 18). In all likelihood, once the kids go back to school, I’ll run more than 3 times a week, but I needed to take the pressure off. I need to get back to the gym and I’m really not feeling the marathon love right now, so having a lower mileage “just finish” plan is what I need. I know that I can finish a marathon with this plan, but it will be far from fast. I can only hope I’m a bit faster than last year. Or if not run it faster, at least stop for a picture with these guys…
Great Chocolate Race
I signed up myself and Beer Geek on a whim. It’s 5 miles, not far from home, and has chocolate at the end. What’s not to love? It’s an inaugural race, but with the location and the short distance, it can’t go too far wrong. If you want to join me, use my affiliate link to sign up:
That’s it. Really. See why I’m getting hives? I have no more half marathons on the schedule. Well, except for Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon, but I’ll be working that one so I’m not sure it counts…
Do you have a lot of races on your schedule? Any big goal races this fall???
And don’t forget to join us in September for Tuesdays on the Run! Here’s our schedule:
September 6, 2016 – Free day! Write about anything running related!
September 13, 2016 – Post run rewards and/or rituals
September 20, 2016 – Best running advice you’ve received
September 27, 2016 – The most challenging aspect of running right now is…

After seeing your pictures, I’m not sure whether to sign up for the Marines or the chocolate. Big toss up there.
Happy running!
Both are good.
I think a just finish marathon plan with some time for pictures with those guys is perfect. 🙂 Beer Geek sounds fun! Goal race is NYC.
Yeah, I just want to have fun at the race.
WHat if we put a beer at the end of every run, or ever certain number of miles? I think that would motivate you 😀 A Dragon’s Milk or Sweet Baby Jesus, perhaps?
Ha ha. That’s the only reason I run every Wednesday night – beer at the end.
My fall schedule looks really boring to everyone else’s. I’m not motivated yet to do much, but I’ve got a goal race ready for next May.
Sometimes it’s good to take some down time.
With views like that, it may not be too bad to run MCM 🙂
I know, right?
This looks like the perfect racing schedule to me. I have one on my list. MCM. And honestly, I’m kinda happy about it. After MCM I’m taking some serious time off to just run for fun.
It’s been a long time since I didn’t have a race on the horizon, but after MCM, my calendar is clear of long distance races. I’m sure it won’t stay that way though.
Hmm, i’m curious to find out where else that chocolate run will be held seeing as its a series. Never heard of it but would be interested in learning more!
I think they have 3 or 4 other locations…
Those are all fun races! Definitely a pic with the guys. I think MCM is my slowest marathon but it was probably the most fun.
Yeah, last year was pretty slow for me. Not sure this year will be any better.
I really need to look into that Higdon’s SR plan, I am all about just getting by now so that would be right up my ally! What eye candy!!! Man, these two would put the pressure on me to sign up for a full for sure! Also you had me a chocolate!! I’d so do this too if it was close! Thanks Erika for the link up. I’m glad I could participate this week!!
I’d never do it if I hadn’t already run so much high mileage. And I know that even running slowly, I can beat the bridge.
the chocolate race sounds fun but I think I am over booked next weekend already. You minimalist huh?
It’s in December. Other than Ragnar, I’m not racing until MCM.
I’m doing MCM this year and knew I’d be able to see some good looking marines, but that’s beyond any expectation. I might miss beating the bridge as I’d have to set up camp with them.
These guys are at about mile 25. Give you incentive to get there…
Even though you don’t have as many races as you normally schedule, you have some really good ones! Ragnar is totally on my list I just need to find some people to run it with! And the marine corps marathon is also one I’m looking at. It might be nice to “take a break” from regular racing so to speak!
You should absolutely stop for a picture with those guys. Wow.
Now that’s a picture stop! LOL I hope you run- or feel at peace if you don’t. Either choice should be one that makes you happy!
I trained for my marathon with only 3 running days a week, once in a while 4. I am probably not as fast as you, but the objective was to finish it feeling good, not in pain. Worked fine.
Sometimes I just need a break from racing…. to avoid burn out and bore out and do other things in life.
Great upcoming topics for TOTR.
Fall is actually my busiest time I my race calendar! I am sitting here hoping I can make it through all of it!
I have a bunch of fall races including the Chicago and Philly marathons! I have friends running MCM so I’m hoping to come down and spectate/cheer this year! Ragnars are SO much fun. Hopefully I can run one in the spring!
