Apparently my blog has been reduced to a coffee break. Oh well, that’s where I am in life right now and I’m just going to own it. I’m joining Deb and Coco for another virtual coffee. Someday I’ll get to have coffee with friends again.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I have a crazy busy fall ahead. In some ways, it feels almost like we are back to normal, but the receipts for new masks in my email inbox pretty much show that to be a lie. I am looking forward to my first (and maybe only) in person race this fall. I’ll be running the 46th Marine Corps Marathon. You can still sign up to join me if you’d like. Heck, you can even sign up to do the races virtually and earn the trifecta coin. I am slower than molasses these days and my longest “run” so far is 10 miles, but I plan to show up on race morning and do everything I can to beat the cutoffs.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m leaving in a few weeks to put on the ZOOMA Cape Cod race. I’m not really excited about flying, but I am excited to be managing an in person race. It won’t be 100% normal as we still need to take COVID precautions, but it will be awesome to be surrounded by runners again. We still have a few spots left if you want to join me there!
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m totally in love with my Bowflex bike. I think if I didn’t have a marathon coming up, I’d be more focused on biking than running. I just love that I can get an amazing workout and have nothing hurt. Between the bike and strength training, I feel like I’ve gone back to my pre-kids roots. I only started running to deal with postpartum depression – back when I used to work full time, I hit the gym 5 days a week (it was in my office building) and I only ran once or twice a week. Since the pandemic started, I’ve really built up my home gym and LOVE the results I’m seeing.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m selling my Honda Pilot. We bought it when the younger kid was in travel soccer and I was driving all the people everywhere (it fits 8 adults comfortably) and I kept it because I thought it would be good for taking the kid to college and back. Well, for a variety of reasons, I prefer to rent a car for the trip, so I’m getting rid of it. I am selling it using the Kelly Blue Book Instant Cash offer and in the last 12 hours, I’ve been contacted by 4 dealers begging for my car. Apparently the rumor that it’s a good time to sell used cars is true!
How are you doing? Are you back to racing regularly or are you still a little gun shy? I’m so over virtual races. I’m doing the running, but I can’t be bothered to post pictures or turn in my results. Yeah, I’ve become that person. Thankfully most races give me the cool swag (like the Falmouth coffee mug above) without me having to upload results.
Stay safe, friends!
I have my first in person race -cherry blossom next week! I have flown many times in the past year and it’s fine. I am more nervous about the race though. Cape Cod will be great enjoy! You know I am a big fan of home gyms and lovc the results I see too. Thanks for stopping in for coffee
There really aren’t many races to speak of here. The Chicago Marathon will happen..I think…because the city needs the revenue. I am over virtuals as well. I have the Schwinn IC4, which I think is the sister bike to yours, and yes, love it!
I had one in-person race in July and am keeping my fingers crossed to see if my next race in October happens. I hope all goes well with Zooma. I couldn’t make it work with my schedule, but maybe next year. I’m over the virtuals except for the occasional charity run.
I’m with you on the biking!! I was disappointed when the AFM was cancelled…but also a little relieved that I could continue enjoying my wheels (I’d be entering Taper right now if the race was still on). My race last weekend offered a virtual option, and the virtual racers could pick up their packets but the medals were going to be mailed after race weekend. I don’t know if that was contingent on their posting their finish times or just a ploy to keep the medals a secret. I had not seen that before!
Sounds like the Marine Corps Marathon will be quite an adventure this year! I haven’t gotten back into racing yet- I finally signed up for a race this summer but promptly got injured and missed it. I’m starting to think about it again though- at this point it might be a Turkey trot.
I think you’ll have fun at Cape Cod! It will be good to get back to “normal”… kind of, sort of. Good luck with it.
So nice to see you on your blog! I’m so over virtual races. Not doing them. Are you getting a new car?
I hope you have fun at the Cape Cod race! :]
I was biking more earlier this summer and in the spring but it got super smoky due to all the fires and I also moved so it’s been on the back burner lately, unfortunately. I want a home gym someday!!
It really is a good time to sell used cars! Finding an affordable car is hell right now. I should know, I’ve been looking. Everything is super expensive or really high mileage. Le sigh.
I can’t wait to do MCM one day! Right now I’m in no shape to run a marathon. I’m barely in shape to run a 5k at the moment haha. My fall is shaping up to be crazy busy as well.
Oh, good luck with Zooma! I bet everyone will be so glad to be there.
I’m pretty sure the main reason I’ve won AG awards in LHH the past two years is because I bothered to submit my time, because my Scooby pace was not fast!
Interesting on the car. We should see how much we can get for our ancient Tahoe, but we bought it used nearly 20 years ago.
