Beer Geek came home from work travel last Tuesday night and promptly came down with what is likely swine flu. My parents were here, so we quarantined him and they helped me deal with all of the various things I need to do. On Thursday, my parents and the boys carved pumpkins and decorated the house for Halloween. On Friday, my parents and Shoo and I went down to the mall and visited the WWII Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial, and the Korean War Memorial. My dad had been wanting to do that for a while and it was nice to get out of the house and leave Beer Geek in peace.
Friday evening, Dad and I ran over to get our race bibs. We had a GREAT run. 3.1 miles in 26 minutes and it felt wonderful. We had checked out the course and figured we’d have a really good chance of PRing.
Saturday was Halloween and we had a busy day with the boys. Beer Geek was still feeling whipped, so my parents and I took the boys on a short little Trick or Treat jaunt. Luckily, neither of the boys is particularly in to T-o-T, so we ended up only being out for about an hour. We then celebrated Shoo’s birthday with cupcakes and the boys handed out candy until bedtime.
Sunday morning dawned rainy and cold. I’d been sleeping on the couch for the last few days, since Beer Geek was sick and my parents were in the guest room. The nagging cough I’d had for the last couple of weeks kept me up most of the night. When I looked outside, I decided I just didn’t have it in me to race. I was pretty sure that I’d end up with a DNF, so I opted for the DNS and went back to sleep. We had Shoo’s birthday party in the afternoon and I wanted to be rested for it. The party went great and Shoo had a wonderful time.
Unfortunately, yesterday evening, I came down with a fever and am now spending most of the day in bed. Beer Geek took a day off work to watch Shoo and to take Jones to and from school. I don’t think I’m quite as bad off as he was, as I don’t have the horrid chest cough he has, but I’m exhausted and only seem to be out of bed for a couple hours at a time.
Hopefully, I’ll be back with pictures of all of last weeks fun soon!
Sorry to hear that you're ill and that you had a DNS, but sometimes, you just have to make that call, and it's usually the best call you can make! Rest up and feel better soon!
Yuck! Hope you all get better soon. You made the right decision not to race, especially with the bad weather on top of it.
get well soon!
Good call deciding not to start. Some things are more important than a race.
Sorry to hear that both you and hubs have been sick. I hope you're both feeling 100% again soon. Rest up!Probably a good call on the race.
Sounds like the same thing we had. Sleep as much as you can, even when we were better the next week was exhausting. Hope you get better soon and your boys don't catch it!
Feel better soon – I'm glad you had a good birthday for the little guy though. My mom would be still be guilting me with the 'I was sick and didn't race, but I STILL made sure you had the perfect birthday' 20 years later.
Dang, sounds like the family funk is having its way around your house. Feel better soon. Any kind of running can just wait til then!
yikes. hope it passes soon – this H1N1 thing has me a little freaked…
No fun! I hope you feel better soon. You definitely made the right decision to DNS.
Oh no, I'm sorry you guys are sick. I hope you are able to get lots of rest and feel better soon!
Hope you feel better soon!!
What a bummer to be sick. Your body is probably happy that you decided to DNS. There will be other races, for sure. Hope you and your husband get better soon!
Hope you feel better soon!
