I have long been on the search for a convenient, easy to carry, easy to prepare, protein source. I think I’ve tried every protein powder out there. I finally realized that I’m not a fan of drinking my calories (unless it’s beer LOL). There were plenty of decent options, I just never reached for them. So, I’ve been trying other protein sources – I need easy to carry with me, no refrigeration required, and it has to taste good. So, when I was offered the chance to try the new Naked Bars, I jumped at it.

Naked bars are nut based, gluten free bars with added whey for additional protein. They currently come in two flavors: peanut butter (which is peanut based, as you might expect) and chocolate (which is almond based.) Neither has any additives – all ingredients are recognizable – and both include grass-fed whey from small family farms. Even better, they don’t contain artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols.

Ok, they checked all the right boxes for me, but how would they taste? As it turns out, they are pretty darn good. They are both dense and nutty flavored, with just a hint of sweetness. No funky aftertaste, no weird consistency. Just a nice solid snack with 15 grams of protein and about 6 grams of fiber.

Generally speaking, I’d rather eat a meal than a protein bar, but I learned last year when I traveled to multiple races for ZOOMA, that sometimes, you just have to eat what you can when you can. Would I prefer to sit down to a meal or snack that includes a mix of veggies, grains, and proteins? Yes, always my first choice. But if I’m racing around the expo or spending hours cheering at the finish line, a tasty high protein bar that will fit in a skirt pocket is an excellent option. These have absolutely been added to my ZOOMA race packing list!
Disclaimer: I was given the Naked Bars to review, but all opinions are my own.
I also would rather eat than drink my foods. Just fills me up better. I have seen those but not tried them yet. Thanks for the review
Wow! I love how the ingredients list is so clean! I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for these!
