Newfangled running

March 13, 2009 by MCM Mama 17 Comments

I ran with the new ipod today.  I’m still loading music and haven’t had time to set up a running playlist yet, so I just set it on shuffle.  It started off good with a peppy Ace of Base song, but the next song up was Air Supply.  While I like Air Supply, it’s not a good choice for running LOL.  I skipped that one and oddly, all the rest of the songs were Wilco, Son Volt, and Uncle Tupelo (who are all sort of the same band).  The run was fine, but I’m not sure I liked it.  Even with the volume fairly low, I felt a little disconnected from my surroundings.  I may bring it along on long runs, but I doubt I’ll start running every run with it any time soon.

I’m almost packed for the trip to Delaware.  It’s been almost a year since I’ve run a non-local race.  I have one entire bag dedicated just to running stuff.  I have clothes for every possible weather permutation, as well as all sorts of other running items.
My goal for the half is to PR.  I should be able to do that since my last half took 2:18.  I’m a bit afraid to go for the sub-2.  If I start at a 9:09 pace, I’m afraid I’ll bonk by mile 10.  If I start around 9:30, I don’t think I’ll be able to pick up the pace enough in the last part to “catch up”.   My last half went so horribly that I’m a bit nervous.
Have a great weekend and I’ll be back Sunday night with a race report on state #3 (and hopefully news of registration for the Maine race this summer).

If you read this before your race, Good Luck! I’m looking forward to your race report. Also, at least you own an ipod. I still run with a mp3 player, loaded with my songs from the 70’s!

You’re going to DELAWARE, sister?1!? Not alone, I hope! Just promise me you’ll be careful on those mean Delaware streets, so full of hustlers, gangbangers, skinheads, war criminals, mutants, ebola virus-carriers, parabola virus-carriers, white people, killers, rapists. papists, banana-fana-fo-fapists, etc. In short, DELAWAREANS!1!*SHUDDER!1!*Did I forget to include the worst of the worst? LIBRARIANs!11!Come back safe!Good luck in your race, sister. Hide any hardware you win from the Delawareans. (They like shiny things.)

Good luck. Maybe find a happy medium between 9:10-9:30 to start at? From seeing your training runs and races it seems to me you should be able to hit 2:00 on a good day. But I understand– the fear of a bad day is always there, esp. if your last half gives you reason to fear. Have fun in state #3!

A slightly obnoxious mom and wife who loves good beer and running, who struggles a bit with depression especially in the winter and when running isn’t allowed, who’d rather go on a fun vacation than upgrade the kitchen or add a master bath, and has a minor addiction to the Marine Corps Marathon.
