Not so wordless Wednesday: Training

January 27, 2010 by MCM Mama 23 Comments

Some people have training plans that they’ve created in excel, complete with color coding and paces, etc. Mine? Looks like this:

I had another not so hot run today. It was the first run in a long time where every single mile was over 10 minutes and I was struggling even to do that. I only had 8 miles planned for the day and I barely finished. I have, however, figured out part of the problem. I got on the scale this morning and discovered I’ve lost 3.5 pounds since last Wednesday morning. While that’s a YAY ( I still have a few more to go), when you are only about 1.5 pounds from your comfortable weight and about 8 pounds from your “skinny” weight, losing 3.5 in a week is excessive (even if some is water weight). I haven’t been dieting per se, just being really careful about my snacking and trying to eat fruit and veggies first when I am hungry. I think I may try throwing in an extra serving of whole grains and maybe some nuts each day and see what happens.
Thanks for all the kind words on my last post! Hopefully soon I’ll be rockin’ the running again.

Wow – that is much more formal than my training plan(s).

Ahhh, that could explain it. I usually feel a little sluggish when losing weight. It's hard to strike the right balance. That being said, congrats on the 3.5 lbs! T=

Dieting=bad running! I run WAY better after eating lots of foods and can definitely feel it when I haven't eaten enough. So, the weight loss (while great) probably doesn't help!

Congrats on the weight loss – it's a tough balance between eating enough to have lots of energy to run and not eating so much that you can't lose wait. Hopefully adding some extra healthy foods will work!

Your training plan looks like mine right down to good old Hal Higdon. :)Since I started putting in serious mileage I've actually GAINED weight and it's making me very angry. Last week I ran 40 miles and gained weight! WTF?!! I weigh more now than I have in over 2 years and for me, having worked so hard to lose all that weight in the first place, this is SO NOT COOL. Sigh.

There it is again…balance! Not such an easy thing to achieve. Congrats on the lbs lost and glad you probably figured out what was making you sluggish. Love your training plan 🙂

Looks like my training plan!Sounds like eating a little more would help. Good job on losing it the right way though, with lots of fruit and veggies!

At least you seem to interact with your training plan. I print mine, glance it each week and then leave it untouched.

Looks good to me. If mine wasn't in a book, it would have been lost long ago!Congrats on the weightloss, but I hope your running perks up and you rebalance.

My training plan for the past cycle-and-a-half has been "what would Pete Pfitzinger do today if he was just winging it?" Maybe I'll get back to a formal schedule in the future-for now, winging it fits my schedule and temperament.WTG on the weight loss, too!

I like the way you put that. I am at my comfortable weight – down from my don't step on the scale weight- trying to get to my skinny weight. I want to be there before my fall marathon and I don't have far to go but those last few pounds (that I have lost several times) are tough.

Nothing beats having your training plan down on paper to see right in front of you! We all have weird weeks of running! Im sure you will be back soon!

That is a lot of weight to lose in 1 week! Your body is probably adjusting a bit. Strong work on the weight loss! The healthy fat found in nuts and avocado may help you feel better.

Congrats on the weightloss. But I guess it would be a fine balance to stay fueled but while losing weight at the same time. I hope adding the grains starts working for you soon.

Haha, that's so funny – that's what my husband's training plans and records look like. I actually started a file in my desk for all of the envelopes and scraps of paper I find sitting around 😉 Good luck with the weight thing – it's tough to find a balance!

Whatever training plans works for you! I don't think that mine's any better – it just shows my obsessiveness with numbers and straight lines more 🙂
