I’ve been a nuun convert for a while now. I used it while training for the Marine Corps Marathon in 2008 and recently rediscovered it. I’ve found that drinking water on long runs does not work well for me, even if I’m eating gels on a fairly consistent basis. I used to drink various “ades”, but really, who needs that many calories and all that sugar? I’m not a sports nutritionist by any means, but I’ve found that I feel better on my long runs when I fill my bottle with nuun. I’ve also started drinking a glass of nuun when I come home from shorter runs where I haven’t taken anything with me. (Actually, I’m sort of addicted to the stuff and find myself making up reasons to drink it LOL) But, I’m not trying to sell you anything, every body works differently and what works for me may or may not work for you. And the things that taste good to me, well, I’m sure many of you consider my love of dark, strong beer just strange. ;o)
nuun is:
portable
nuun comes in a tough tube that is water resistant and perfect for carrying in your hand, bike jersey, pack…wherever. 1 tube = 6 litres (~1.5 gallons) – enough for a good ride or a week at the gym. and if you travel, forget trying to find your normal drink or suffering the indignity of bags of powder bursting in your luggage, a couple of tubes in your bags will get there in one piece and get you through the week of training in colorado or the pyrenees.
balanced
we spent years researching the levels of electrolytes needed for the product to be absorbed the quickest and to provide optimal salt balance to prevent cramping and maximise hydration. an editor of a major triathlon publication used nuun and had “no cramping issues for the first time ever in an ironman”.
refreshing
designed for the active palate, nuun’s got a light flavour that’s not overwhelming when you’re on the go. if you’ve ever watered down sports drinks because they’re too strong, then you’ve made them less easy to absorb; this ultimately defeats the purpose of using them. some call the nuun taste ‘tart’ and that’s probably the best description we’ve found yet, other than ‘just right’!
simple
a bottle of water, 1 nuun per 500ml (~16oz) … doesn’t matter where you are, how windy it is, how much space you’ve got – drop in nuun and you’re good to go.
Nuun is my favorite thing in the world, for all the reasons you listed. All that sugar was also really hard on my stomach. I didn't love the taste at first, but now I can't get enough of the Orange Ginger. Which reminds me, I'm almost out.
My favorite Nuun flavor is Tri-Berry. I ration it out because I just love it so much – use it as a reward to motivate me on the super long runs. 🙂
LOVE Nuun! I'm still getting used to the fizzy taste, but I really like that it's not full of sugar and other additives like Gatorade.

Come to Ontario! My top recommendations in my area would be the Wine Country Run or Toronto City Chase.
I am not entering the contest. I just wanted you to read an email for no reason.
I've never tried nuun, but jelly beans + water make my tummy unhappy. Lemonlime looks yummy!!

I honestly wasn't sure what nuun even was until today. I love their company history!
I linked you on the blog!
hmmm…I've read a lot of blogs where runners really like this stuff.
also, I'm already a follower 😉
If you like big rowdy events, come do the Shamrock Shuffle 8k.If you like small, tough ones come do the March Madness 1/2.I see you've got IL covered so don't miss the Grand Rapids Marathon or 1/2. Awesome!
also, you will never be in this area (Saskatchewan) but we have a couple of really great brew pubs in the city – Lydias was always my fave in university because of the good beer and the live music.
I would love to try the tri berry. That sounds right up my alley! 🙂

How about the Fargo Marathon? I know i have mentioned it before but it's fat, flat, and friendly! And a BQ qualifier!
awwww, thanks for the sunshine!! it worked! we had a beautiful day here in Boston! thanks! 😀
I'd like to try tropical fruit, or mixed fruit…it seems like an interesting concept, gels don't mix with me, but these may do the trick, I won't have to worry about hydrating so much during my half!
Oh, and I am follower, and have you on my blog roll

Try out the 100 on 100 relay in August in Vermont. Or the Vermont City Marathon. Both excellent races. If you want shorter ones I have lots of suggestions. Tell me a distance you want to race.
LInked on my web site.
I want to try the citrus one.
I love nuun. My favorite flavor is the citrus one but I've been wanting to try the orange ginger. I'm just a little afraid!
I loved the Vermont City Marathon and went to college in burlington so know the area well. Vermont Pub and Brew is excellent and super affordable, Magic Hat Brewery is fun. Switchback is my favorite brew and the brewery is right in burlington. Plus they have a brew fest every summer. My advice; find a race you like in Burlington and go wild!
I'm also a follower. Thanks for the calming comment on my post!
I've never tried nuun but I would like the lemon and lime flavor.

The Dam to Dam 20k here in Des Moines Iowa is very fun and they have lots of beer at the end! Actually they have lots of free beer at packet pickup as well as loads of food too!http://www.damtodam.com/

It's not near me, but you should check out Roosters in Ogden, UT (if you haven't already). Great food and beer.

Oh, and the tri-berry sounds good. I can't stand sports drinks while running, I'll have to try these instead.PS thanks for sending the positive thoughts my way! 🙂
My favorite is the Tri-Berry :). And I'm a follower!Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the heads up about your giveaway! I'd love to try banananuun.

Don't enter me in the giveaway since I'm not running long distances right now, but I just wanted to stop by and say hi. Have a great weekend!
Now that I know I can stomach sports drinks while running again (I've toughened up, I suppose) nuun is on the top of my list to try. The tri-berry Gu flavor was my go-to for the longest time, so I think it'd be my nuun flavor of choice as well.
Here in the Phoenix area, the main local brewery is Four Peaks, which has some great fried food as well. I just learned of a smaller local one, Popago Brewery that I have to check out for a post-race treat one day. Unfortunately, I don't think that York has any local beer to incorporate into Bob Potts. Just a little bit North in Harrisburg there is, though the name escapes me at the moment.(and of course I'm a follower, and I'll link back too)
banananuun!!! that's the flavor i need to try
i'm a follower. me! me! pick me! i love nuun! i need nuun! (does begging help?!?)
I've always hated electrolyte replacement drinks because they're nasty and most of them look like anti-freeze. Seriously, where do they come up with these colors??? But I know that I do need something… or I will, at least, when my distances increase this spring. But nuun is colored with beet juice? I can't wait to give it a try!
I just became a follower!
I just discovered Nuun but it's like it was designed just for me. Not too sweet, just gives you what you need and nothing more. And convenient. I'm in. I don't have high hopes for the banana flavor, but I gotta try it. I'll keep following the blog. http://www.twitter.com/perseid88
Tweeted it! http://twitter.com/MeandTheBug
You should come check out the Missoula Marathon. Voted best overall by Runner's World! AND… after the race you get a free Moose Drool from local brewery Big Sky Brewing Co. Right up your alley, eh? 🙂 I'll be running it (my first ever marathon) this July!
I linked up on the sidebar of my blog too! me-and-thebug.blogspot.com
I am excited to try lemon+lime flavored Nuun because sugary carb drinks don't set well for me while running. I became a follower of your blog this week! I would recommend you run the Cleveland Half Marathon in May (great course following major landmarks and showcases our city) or a wonderful trail run through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Afterwards, you must go to Great Lake Brewery. If you're a pale ale person, they have the best! Plus they are green-certified and kid-friendly!
I knew I was behind in my blog roll, so I almost missed this. Please enter me- I love Nuun. I'd like to try Banana- haven't done so yet.
I am already a follower!
I keep meaning to try nuun, but I get too excited by other things at the running store that I forget about it…fail. I really want to try the tri-berry and maybe the citrus fruit or the lemon-lime
Hmmm….well I'm originally from Wisconsin, went to school in Minnesota, and now I'm doing grad school in Florida, but the best place for a beer (in the whole US) is definitely Wisconsin. Pretty much any race you choose, there will be a brewery close by. I would suggest checking out the Cellcom Marathon or Half, held in May each year. You even get free beer and brats (a total WI thing) after finishing….and you run through Lambeau field, which is where the Green Bay Packers play (aka….heaven on earth for Packer fans lol). Or you can check out Milwaukee (where the Miller brewery is) and Madison, both of which have lots of smaller brewerys too 🙂
I have yet to try nuun so this is the perfect opportunity! I think either the Tri Berry or Mixed Fruit would be good.
Already a follower!!!
You have to try out Shiner Bock beer…it is the beer of Texas. The brewery is supposed to have great tours. http://www.shiner.com/And if you come for the beer, then you might as well drive to Austin for the marathon or 1/2 marathon. Austin is a great city to visit!
I definaltly want to try our the lemon lime and the orange ginger.
This is totally not my neck of the woods, but October 3rd is the Smuttynose Brewery rockfest. There is a half and full, with smuttynose at the end, and of course you can make a stop at the brewery.http://www.hamptonrockfest.com/And You haven't been to New Hampshire yet. Before that in Spetember is the Hamptions Half marathon on Long Island, then after you go to the Southhampton brewery/ brew pub.Let me know if you plan to do either, because I will be at both this year!!

I've never tried Nuun, but sounds like it'd be something I'd like to try! I think I'd go for the lemon lime or citrus fruit flavor.

We like beer in Wisconsin. I admit, I've only been to the Miller Brewery in Milwaukee, but there's some good ones around the state. And beer friendly races? I've heard good things about the Point Bock Run in Stevens Point, WI (http://pointbeer.com/point/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=49&catid=49)

I'd love to try the mixed fruit.
If you come to NYS, you should do the Boilermaker in Utica in July (5k or 15k). They have beer at the end. In Albany, on June 5, there's Freihofer Run for Women (5k) – sorry you get cookies, no beer but there are are brewery nearby.
I'd love to try the cucumber!
I really want to try the tropical fruit and the tri-berry!

if you make it to wichita, ks, check out river city brewery…
I follow you. Actually, I'd swear I already did follow you but for some reason I fell off.
I only recently tried Nuun at the Bermuda Race Expo. Better than I expected it to be, and am looking forward to trying my samples once I get my long runs back. I have a "delicate" stomach that doesn't DO sugar. Oh right, I'm supposed to tell you which product I liked, and I tried Orange Ginger in BDA, and liked it.
So, would love to encourage you to "run a marathon" near me… but, we've discussed this, we tend to get hit by the same snow storms and that means that I don't have anything exotic to offer you. BUT also not that far from you, TMB and I are running the 17.75K in June. If you need a training race, or just a reason to get out and meet up with some "bloggy stalkers", it's gonna be fun. Or, at least it's going to be hot. Also, I tagged you on my page today
