I just saw this on Laura’s blog last night. It’s been a while since I did a blogging survey and I’ve got a head cold and need to wrap presents (must go watch the video on Christmas wrapping a cat…), so here you go…
1 Holy Night or 8 Crazy Ones? (Do you Celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, both?)
We celebrate Christmas. Depending on the year, it’s either a really quiet time at home or lots of family stuff in the cold that is Wisconsin. This year is one of the quiet years.
Peppermint or Chocolate?
Both, please! Pretty sure that Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Covered Peppermint Joe Joe’s are the best.thing.ever.
Sing us into the Holiday Season, what is your favorite Carol this time of year?
I love most carols, but the one that always hits me the most is Silent Night, especially when I hear it in German.
Tell us about a Favorite Family or Personal Holiday Tradition.
I grew up with Christmas Eve being the big celebration. We would go to church and Santa would come while we were gone (I was in college before I figured out how my parents made it happen). We’d come home, open presents, and snack until the wee hours of the morning. I always thought it was a German thing, but I finally asked my grandmother and it turns out, it was because all the men had to milk the cows on Christmas morning. So, I guess it was a farmer thing…
We still do it when we are home in Wisconsin, but when we are here, we do Christmas morning.
C’mon you remember your favorite (Christmas, Hanukkah) gift, tell us all about it:
Our first Christmas, Beer Geek gave me diamond earrings (after pretending to have just gotten me two CDs). They are the only piece of jewelry that he’s given me without me being involved in the decision making and I have only taken them out a handful of times in 19 years.
That magical moment? (Your favorite scene from a Holiday movie…it’s okay if you have 2)
The squirrel scene in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. What can I say, I prefer stupid comedy. ;o)
Kissing under the mistletoe? Who do you hope is standing underneath (We know it’s normally your spouse, if it did not have to be, who would you choose?)
Hmm, can’t really think of anyone. Most of my “crushes” were from 80s movies (think Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, etc.) and they are old now. ;o)
Swans a swimming, lords a leaping, golden rings; which gift of the 12 days of Christmas would you like most?
I never turn down jewelry, so I guess the rings…
Play Secret Santa, what inappropriate gift would you love to give this year?
I’d love to gift all of my friends a pair of “runders” and then go out for a run together wearing them. (Over tights, of course, since it’s finally cold here again.)
Martha Stewart or the Grinch? What is your decorating style? (Pictures would be awesome!)
I’m Martha Stewart at heart, but the Grinch in effort LOL. We put up a tree and stockings, but that’s about it. And our poor reindeer bit the dust a year or so ago and I haven’t found a new one yet.
What is ONE WORD that defines the holiday season for you? (Examples: Believe/Wonder/Bah Humbug?)
Family and friends who are family by choice. Sometimes it’s the big extended family. Sometimes it’s just the four of us. But either way, Christmas is about being with loved ones.
If Santa could assure its delivery, what’s the first thing on your holiday wish LIST?
A new kitchen. Might as well dream big. ;o) Barring that, I’d like a white Christmas…
What about you? Answer one or answer all the questions and play along!
I love your memory about the best gift ever – those earring sound like a great one since they were such a surprise!!!
