How on earth is it nearly the end of January? This month just flew by and I’m not even sure that I accomplished anything. OK, that’s a lie. I managed to spend way too much money on car repairs – in part thanks to rodents. Know what they told me at the dealership yesterday??? That the manufacturers use peanut oil on the wires in the cars. And I wonder why I’m constantly having to remove acorns and nests and repair things. Yay for environmentally responsible choices but it’s awful for urban living. I joke that I don’t take my Pilot in for oil changes, I take it in for rodent removal. Sadly, it’s not a joke.
Despite the automotive hit to my pocket book, I managed to convince Beer Geek that I should head to the Skirt Sports retreat this year. I found some (relatively) cheap tickets on Southwest, so I’m heading to the Mothership! I had so much fun two years ago and was sad that I couldn’t go last year. Never mind that I was having a blast running around the midwest and then got to return to the place where it all started – ZOOMA Annapolis.
Speaking of ZOOMA, I’ve mentioned that I’m working for the Race Director. She’s offered me the opportunity to not only fly down to help out, but she suggested I run the race. Yes, I have finally found a job where running a race is part of the duties. Yes, I realize how lucky I am. Fingers crossed that I can go to the other races as well. Speaking of, Cape Cod and Great Lakes are open and Florida opens tomorrow! If you don’t catch the early deals,
- 50% off + free Bondiband for the first 20 registrations (with code ZOOMA)
- 10% off + free Bondiband for next 100 registrations (with code BONDI)
You can use code ERIKA2017 (yeah, I should probably update my code at some point) for 10% off. I’m really excited to check out the Texas race as it will be my first half marathon of the year!
Which leads me to another runfession. I’ve been doing the FASTer Way To Fat Loss for about 7 weeks now. I’m loving what it is doing for my body – I’m seeing muscles AND everything in my closet fits again. The only problem with the program is that I’m having a hard time fitting in a half marathon training plan. I’m kind of ok with that because I’m liking the results, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to be unhappy come March if I don’t start getting in some longer runs soon. (If you are interested in the Faster Way, feel free to use my link. I do get commission if you purchase through it, which will allow me to buy more Skirt Sports LOL.)
And those few miles that I am running? Yeah, my treadmill has been seeing a lot of love this winter. I’m not sure why – I usually like running in the cold. I just can’t get motivated most days to bundle up and get out there. I guess I should just be happy I’m running???
I also must runfess that Skirt Sports knocked the winter wear out of the park this year. As an ambassador, I make an attempt to try their new products, but I was resisting these. I finally broke down and bought a couple of “lounge” pieces in their end of the season sale. Oh Em Gee. They are so comfortable. I am in love with the Hang Out pants and jacket (I can’t wear them together because I feel like a high school gym teacher), but the pants look great with the Wonder Wool jacket. Pretty soon I may not own anything but Skirt Sports clothing. It’s a good thing both of my jobs are work from home.
As a bonus runfession, I’m really looking forward to February. It means we are that much closer to warmer weather. I never thought I’d say that, but for some reason, this winter I’m always cold. Our gas and electric bills are going to be insane because I just haven’t been able to deal.
How was your January? Anything new and exciting coming up in February?
I’m joining Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup! I’m also runfessing over at Marcia’s Healthy Slice.
I’ve also had a hard time getting motivated to run in the cold this winter. I think I hit my limit after the really cold streak at the end of December. Now I like getting outside on those random warmer days, but I’m rather not be out there when its in the 20s or lower…unless it’s really sunny and there is no wind. Treadmill running still counts, plus there is so much less laundry!
Unfortunately I have to go to work and dress appropriately. So Skirt Sports would not be acceptable.
I am looking forward to racing in Feb. two on the calendar and not looking forward to double digit runs in our arctic temps. But my half is in fla in March
Now that it’s “warmer”, my motivation is much improved. Altho I’m really not feeling the long runs! My half marathon (in 2 weeks) is going to be interesting.
High school gym teacher. You crack me up! I’m hoping to get a group together for Zooma Great Lakes this year. I haven’t run a Zooma race since it was last in Lake Geneva. I’m overdue.
I will take a look at that Faster link! That’s an awesome job – what a great perk! 🙂
My treadmill’s also getting a lot of attention. It’s hard to gather up motivation and pile on the layers. It’s so much easier to stay inside to do my workout.
I have been doing FWTFL on and off for a year and have trained for several races with no problem. I usually limit things to one leg day and one full body / upper body workout. I end up only having 1 real rest day a week. I also be careful not to go too low carb or my energy takes a nose dive.
Im excited for February, too…and for the exact same reason –>closer to summer 😉
I am interested in your automotive issues (i’ve been without my car since November due to issues) . Why do they use peanut oil on the wires? I guess that attracts the Rodents? I didn’t even know there was suppose to be any oil on the wires.
I feel the same exact way about this winter. I can’t warm up for the life of me! I’m a freeze baby anyway but this one has been particularly bad.
Checking out this FASTer you speak of…
That job with ZOOMA sounds great! Can I get one too? 🙂 I love it when companies make clothes that can be worn for running and other activities. I own a lot of Oiselle pieces and wear them to work as well. I am over this winter. Although we’ve been having some really nice weather which I am glad.
I’m SOOOOOO looking forward to it getting warmer!!!
I’m looking forward to more running, new (to me) classes at the gym and a quick trip to Poland for a concert.
The Zooma is a nice deal! Congrats
Skirt sports make some really products.
That is awesome the Faster way program is working for you 🙂
I have such a harder time getting out in the cold than the heat… good thing we don’t get much cold around here!
You’re so motivating, Vicki! I just can’t run outside when it’s winter and I am not motivated to be using the treadmill. How do you stay motivated to do that?
