This Tuesday was my day to work at Shoo’s preschool, so instead of a blissful five hours to myself, I got to change diapers and clean up messes for 12 2 year olds. (Boy am I glad my kids potty trained early, I so don’t miss the diapers.) Then, today was Jones’ field trip at school. They were short volunteers for his class, plus he really wanted me there, so I ended up going. My babysitter for Shoo fell through at the last minute, so I had him with me as well. It was just a walk to a local park to practice creating and using a map, so it wasn’t a huge deal. However, I was assigned four boys, plus I had Shoo. Needless to say, I employed my usual method of dealing with boys – wear them out. I used an extremely inefficient method of mapping the stuff at the park that involved having them run from one side of the park to the other multiple times. Hey, it got the map done and they were MUCH calmer on the walk back to school LOL. After school, Jones had ice skating and then we had to get ready for soccer.
So, to say I’ve been busy, is like saying a marathon is “only” 26.2 miles. :o) Thankfully, when Beer Geek walked in from work, he took one look at my face and offered to take the boys to soccer practice so I could run. Yes, I’ve married a good man. I did four miles in 36 minutes with negative splits and then did another third of a mile so that hopefully I can make my monthly total equal at least 100.
I’ve decided to join in and wear The Shirt that Races that Nikemom has. I’ve been assigned to wear it for the marathon. I’m hoping it arrives a few days before the race so that I can wear it running once. I can’t decide if I’m crazy or not (and I reserve the right to not wear it if I sense any chafing issues). It shouldn’t be a problem as I have other shirts that are quite similar that I’ve worn on long runs.
To keep from suffering from too much letdown after the marathon, I’ve started looking at some races for after it’s done. I know I’ll be doing a local Turkey Trot and then I have a number of races in the spring that I like to do. But I found a race that I may just have to schedule our summer vacation around. The Boilermaker 15K ends with a post race party at the FX Matt Brewery (they make the Saranac beers). What a great way to combine my love of running and Beer Geek’s love of beer!
