My kids are pretty understanding about all the time I spend running and blogging, so when I got the opportunity to let one of my kids try out a cool new Petz game for the Nintendo 3DS called Petz Beach, I jumped on it. When I told Shoo he was getting to do his first blog review, he was pretty excited and immediately jumped on the game (hey, mom’s letting him play during non-electronics time, of course he was all about the game.)
Although we have other Petz games, I was a little worried that perhaps he’d outgrown these types of games. I was oh so wrong. He loved it (and I may have caught the teenager checking it out too…)
About Petz Beach
- Petz Beach is a cool new Petz game, now for the Nintendo 3DS! Petz fans will embark on the ultimate adventure in Petz Beach, where players can care for a variety of dogs, complete quests to expand their village and connect with other Petz owners.
- So many different animals! More than 50 animal choices from dogs to cats to dolphins to penguins will keep your child entertained.
- The game expands as you play. As players explore the town and meet new neighbors with their pets, the game expands and grows. Helping new friends will expand the village as the game progresses.
- It’s not just fun and games. Thanks to Encyclopaedia Britannica, kids will learn facts about animals, plants, and insects as they care for their pets and complete their quests.
So, what did Shoo really think? When asked, he said his favorite part was the Mayor who kept popping up everywhere. Apparently the Mayor told him he could buy more than one pet. Hmm… Being the money hungry kid that he is, he also loved doing the quests so that he could get money to spend on animals and accessories. I was shocked that of all the things he could choose for a pet, he chose – wait for it – a dog. Really? Not a dolphin or a whale?
He also seemed pretty happy about the game continuing to expand as he played. Unfortunately, he missed out on the cool Halloween decorations, but I bet soon there will be some Thanksgiving decorations to check out. (Yes, the game follows the seasons. Neat, huh?)
Not a beach goer? Petz Countryside just came out too!
Sadly, it won’t be long before my kids are too old for these types of sweet games, but if your kids are younger, this is a really fun game with great features and the added bonus of facts to learn.

My son is 5 and in Kindergarten. He is just learning to read. How much reading does this game require? He wants the game but I don’t want him to be discouraged, either.
I asked my kids and they said it was a fair amount of reading. My youngest is in 3rd grade and he’s fine with the amount, but I know we got one of the other Petz games when he was a lot younger and I remember him being quite frustrated. I think if you plan to help him, he’d enjoy it, but he might not enjoy it at this point.
