I woke up this morning in a crappy mood. Some of it was hormonal. A lot of it was just a lot of little stresses weighing me down. Nothing major, just general life annoyances plus the added stress of Christmas.
I didn’t want to run. I ran 25 miles over the last three days (yes, I did add mileage yesterday to make it a nice round number). I also did an hour long yoga class that had an emphasis on legs. So, my legs were tired and I was crabby. Sounded like a perfect recipe for a rest day. And chocolate. Lots of chocolate.
However, I had made plans to run with a friend and she showed up at my door before I could come up with a good excuse not to. So, I took my sorry butt out the door and started running.
And, guess what? Yep. It was an amazing run. My legs felt strong. I was able to hold a pace I haven’t seen in a while. Seriously, mile 5 was 9:30 and I wasn’t breathing hard. I have no idea where that came from, but I’ll take it.
None of the stresses are completely gone, but I’m in a much better place to deal with them than I was an hour ago.
Remember the ads where they showed an egg frying in a pan and said “This is your brain on drugs?”
Well, picture rainbows and unicorns. This is my brain on running.
In other news, Jones made the Honors Orchestra for our county. Congratulations to my awesome cello player!

Congratulations Jones. That’s a huge honour.
The best runs are often the ones we start not feeling the greatest. Congratulations Jones! That is wonderful!
Good for you for getting out there when you mentally didn’t feel like it…and then having an amazing run! I love it when that happens!
Congratulation to Jones! Yay for an awesome run when you didn’t see it coming. That always makes for a great day!
