Jones has developed a bit of an addiction to the Nintendo DS. We have specific rules about when he may or may not play, but are having some issues with how long he’s allowed to play. Today it was really nice outside again, so Shoo and I walked and picked him up from school. After we all walked home, Jones did his homework and then asked for his DS. Usually I let him because I’m either about to head out running or trying to start dinner or both. Today I suggested we all go out and play soccer in the front yard.
OH.MY.GOODNESS! The kid can run (and he’s better with the ball than I am, sigh). I spent the next half hour + racing around our front yard. Thank goodness for all the running I do. I was able to keep up with him, although he can definitely turn on a dime and I found myself having to sprint to catch him again. I wasn’t planning to run today as I did a fitness class with Shoo, but I think this counted as interval training LOL.
In totally unrelated news, my eye looks even worse. It looks like I got in a bar brawl and lost. Even better, when Shoo and I were grocery shopping (and getting plenty of stares LOL), I ran into one of my high school crushes. Gotta love running into a guy you used to think was the cutest thing EVER and sporting a lovely black eye. LOL
hey fellow Marylander! (right? I figured that you live right outside of DC – Montgo Co?). I grew up Silver Spring and miss D.C…. now that I live all the way in baltimore π congrats on MCM – it’s a great race!
It always surprises me how hard doing something besides running can be . . . I play tag with my Sunday school kids at church sometimes and I’m glad I run. It’s like training for Sundays!
i don’t even try to keep up anymore… too funny about your run in at the store! Ugh!
That definately counts as interval training!! LOL
Definately counts as cross-training. I wasn’t running (or doing much of anything) when my kids played soccer. I remember once playing with them for fun and it about killed me. LOL
Awesome cross-training! Great interview at the last post too π
Playing with your kids is a great workout, I know mine keep me going. I usually have to stop before they do!
ok now I need a picture of the eye :)you should so just work it.be the hardcore woman you are and strut.
Most certainly counts as intervals! Soccer is hard work.
Sod’s law–you always see people you know when you really don’t want to.So I now have another reason to have kids–cardio. π
Ugh that always happens, whenever you feel you look your worst you always run into someone you’d like to look your best around.
So cool about Jones’ soccer skills. Good for him if you weren’t begging him to go inside and play Nintendo when that was over! I hope you’re making lots of cheesy comments like “You shoulda seen the OTHER guy!”
LOL my 4 yo always asks “Mom so when will I be able to beat you running?” SOON ENOUGH! HAHAHA
Not two weeks after running a marathon, I was playing the soccer game of the season and nearly had heart failure. One never knows! Also, we have similar DS issues. Most of the time no problem but occassionally…a DS coma kicks in and we have to have an intervention..AKA the DS gets hidden in a secret location. π
Running with my kids make my lungs burn. Not only are they faster than me, the have unlimited energy.
