Runfessing that I’m ready for January to end

January 24, 2019 by MCM Mama 7 Comments

Here we are nearing the end of January and I’m gonna jump right in with the Runfessions: This month has not gone as planned. Not from a running standpoint, not from a housekeeping standpoint, not from a momming standpoint. So, yeah, January can just step aside (and take next week’s cold weather predictions with it.) I’m joining Marcia to runfess my sins of the last month.

So far this month, my kids have already had two snow days and 2 or 3 late starts, in addition to a holiday. They also have this coming Monday off for teacher grading day. I runfess that despite my best intentions, I slept in every day that they did. Sleeping in only means sleeping until 8am, but that means my morning workout time is gone. I’ve managed to get in most of my workouts, but I’ve had zero time to add extra running to start building my mileage. And most of what I’ve done has been on the treadmill and not fast or far (but I have been enjoying watching “How I Met Your Mother”…)

On the household front, my Pilot is in AGAIN for rodent damage. Something (I’m guessing a chipmunk because we have a few that are living in our detached garage) got into the cabin and destroyed the wiring and seatbelt on my front passenger seat. Seriously??? The service people at Honda had never seen anything like it. It’s not like I left a hamster in the car… I runfess that I put in a few miles on the treadmill so as not to lose my mind after hearing what this will cost.

As if that were not enough, the front door lock on my house broke (and Harris Teeter had the audacity to move EVERYTHING in the store). I may not have been the politest shopper as my search for groceries took twice as long as a normal shopping trip. Add in having to carry the groceries in through the back door and I was in desperate need of a run. Thankfully, instead of the awful cold we’ve been having, I was greeted with nearly 50 degree weather. I runfess that I was not unhappy that I finished my run before it went from raining to pouring.

Finally, I runfess that I’ve heard a rumor that the Marine Corps Marathon is going to have a 50K this year. I’ve been swearing up and down that I won’t run MCM this year, but a 50K changes everything. E.VER.Y.THING! But umm, yeah, I should probably get on that running thing.

Are you ready for January to be over or are you enjoying the winter? I swear I used to love winter, but this year, I’m just over it.

Oh, I hate when they move everything around at the store! I know it’s a trick to get us to discover items we might not have considered but still! Rude!

One time years ago, I was driving to work (this was in the city) and I heard a meowing from somewhere in my car. I kept checking for a cat, but I couldn’t find one. When I got to work, the meowing got really loud so I went to an auto shop where they found a kitten living in my wheel well. At least he didn’t do any damage to the car. All day long at work, people kept meowing at me…

Sounds like a great week to have over! Yikes on the rodent damage. So frustrating. Wow a 50k? That’s an interesting addition. Wonder if going longer is a trend we’ll see more of. Thanks for linking!

I have never heard of a chipmunk getting into a car like that and doing damage. That would freak me out! Does seem like the kids have had a lot of days off this month. It did not bother me as much once my kids were older bc they pretty much slept until noon lol. 50K huh??

I have NEVER loved winter. I was so happy when I lived in TX . . . not with the summers, of course, but I had so much more energy & I’m sure having sunshine was part of that.

Ouch on the car! That is totally weird.

I can’t even imagine sleeping in to 8 am. I am just not wired that way.

I am willing to be you’re gonna do the MCM 50k. 🙂

I really hate the grocery store, and when they change things around it really throws me into a tail spin. Like, I really want to spend more time wandering around for things that are not located in obvious places….

I’m over winter, and it hasn’t even been that bad
Yikes on your car — and what a crazy linked hamster story. Hope you have better weeks soon

A slightly obnoxious mom and wife who loves good beer and running, who struggles a bit with depression especially in the winter and when running isn’t allowed, who’d rather go on a fun vacation than upgrade the kitchen or add a master bath, and has a minor addiction to the Marine Corps Marathon.
