Here we are, two months out from the Marine Corps Marathon. As seems to happen every August, I’m a little bit fixated on my training. Unlike last year, I actually feel like I’m doing a decent job on following my training plan. I’m not 100% on it, but I’m closer than I’ve ever been. So, I’m joining Marcia for some marathon training runfessions…
I runfess that today is my birthday and I don’t plan to run 47 miles to commemorate it. I’m not even sure I’ll hit 47 miles for the week (although it may be close.) Instead, I’ll run my 10 planned miles, spend all my birthday money on new Skirt Sports items, and then head out for dinner and beer with Beer Geek.
I runfess that I have fallen in love with the Altra Escalante. They have even pushed aside my beloved One 2.5 when it comes to long runs. (Review soon). But I runfess that I am so tempted to buy the men’s version. Altra designs their women’s shoes specifically for the way that women’s feet are shaped. But I love the colors of the men’s shoes and I really think I need them to wear for the Marine Corps Marathon. (Also runfessing that I’ve considered getting both colors and wearing one of each…)
I runfess that, in addition to the shoes, I’m starting to obsess about my attire for the Marine Corps Marathon. I’ve worn the same design on my shirt the last two years and I’m thinking I want something different this year. I do like the red white and blue theme though, so I’m conflicted.
Speaking of marathons, I runfess that I’m hating on Hansons right now. I feel this way every August. My body is tired and the weather is still pretty warm. I hate that 6 days a week I have to run for an hour or more. But according to Hansons, I’m doing it right. I will also runfess that I have every intention of doing this again next year.
Training for a Fall Marathon & feel tired all the time? It means you are doing it right. The key is to practice running in a fatigued state.

I runfess that I’m excited about Ragnar DC weekend. I have an awesome team, but the best part is that two of my favorite ladies are coming into town to run with us. Even better, we’ve hatched the crazy plan to run Ragnar and then run the Clarendon Day double. So, after 36 hours of running and not sleeping, we’ll get up Sunday morning, run from my house, run a 5K, run the mile (uphill) back to the start, run the 10k, and then run back up the hill and back to my house. If I can’t run a marathon after that weekend, I’m a much wimpier runner than I think I am.
I’m joining Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup!
I love the idea of one shoe in each color! Totally fun and perfect for MCM. I’m tired just reading about Hanson’s. Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! Sounds like a great evening to me! I am the same way with sneakers. I find a pair I like and I buy them in very color.
wow that is rather ambitious to run Ragnar and then the Clarendon double! The double is tough anyway bc you have to walk up that hill in the middle too. I will be doing the 10K which now seems like a piece of cake compared to the day you will have 🙂
Happy Birthday!! I hope that you have a great day and weekend.
I am also starting to think about my race day outfit. I’m running Chicago so I want to wear red, light blue and white. I already have my compression socks and sneakers picked out, need to work on finding a shirt!
Well good to know that being tired means I’m doing it right! I was also following Hansons (for the most part, I’ve missed a few runs too) but I enjoy the lower mileage for long runs and I still feel pretty strong coming into the last month of training. I’ve managed to stick with my plans for most of this year, so I’m hoping that means my first marathon will go well! However, I don’t think I’ll do another fall marathon. From now on, it’ll be spring marathons for me. It’s just really too hot here in Florida to train all summer.
I’m loving the Altra Escalante too! What a fun idea to wear one of each color!
Happy Birthday 🙂
I’m following Hansons for my training for the Vegas 10k, but thankfully it’s not calling for 6 days a week of running. I wouldn’t be able to handle that.
6 days a week! UGH! I can barely handle 4…am thinking of switching to 3.
Your Ragnar/Clarendon Day plan is just nuts! I’m running the double this year, and that seems nutty enough to me! See you there!
I’ll be at the Clarendon Day Run too! I’m pretty excited for it. Those are some nice looking shoes!
Happy birthday!!!!
I’m wearing a blue tank with stars on it from Mizuno for MCM. You should find one and we can both wear it!! #twins
Oh, those red and blue shoes! That would be SO legit to wear one of each 😉
Love the idea of 2 shoes of different colors but that kind of thing does things to my brain that it doesn’t like….
